Admitting Her ‘Puffy Face and Mustache’ Came from Fillers, Love Island Star Decides to Wipe Them Out Completely

The UK’s booming aesthetics industry, valued at an impressive £3.2 billion in 2024 and projected to hit £3.6 billion by year’s end, is facing an unexpected twist. A growing wave of celebrities and influencers are turning their backs on facial fillers, embracing a natural look and sparking a beauty revolution that’s shaking up the billion-pound market. Among them is Love Island star Mal Nicol, who has boldly sworn off lip fillers for good after a dramatic reversal.

The 27-year-old Edinburgh native, who stole hearts on the tenth series of ITV2’s Love Island in 2023, recently took to TikTok to share her journey of dissolving her lip fillers. In a candid video that’s racked up 28,000 views, Mal cringed as she reflected on her former filler-heavy appearance. “I actually cannot stress how awful I used to look when I had lip filler,” she confessed. “I look ridiculous. I look like I constantly had a moustache. Like, what the f***, this is disgusting.”

Mal didn’t hold back, admitting she was “in denial” about how the fillers altered her face, leaving it looking swollen and unnatural. “Filler moves,” she explained, pointing out how the product distorted her features over time. Now, proudly showing off her natural lips, she declared, “The best thing I ever did was dissolve the filler.” Social media users couldn’t agree more, flooding the comments with praise. One fan gushed, “You look beautiful omg,” while another chimed in, “10000 million times better without.”

Mal’s decision aligns with a broader trend among UK celebrities, with stars like Molly-Mae Hague, Faye Winter, and Chloe Ferry also opting to dissolve their fillers in favor of a more authentic aesthetic. This shift is sending ripples through the aesthetics industry, as more public figures champion natural beauty over the once-coveted “plumped-up” look.

Mal’s Love Island journey saw her enter the villa on day 16, where she went on dates with Mitchel Taylor and Sammy Root, the latter of whom won the series alongside Jess Harding. She briefly coupled up with Sammy on day 18 but was soon dumped from the show after receiving the fewest votes for favorite girl. Despite her short stint, Mal left a lasting impression and has since kept fans engaged with updates on her life.

Last year, the reality star revealed she’d been approached to join a new series of Married at First Sight (MAFS) on E4, sharing a message from a casting agent on Instagram. However, Mal has since found happiness off-screen, settling into a relationship with her investment banker partner. The couple recently celebrated major milestones, purchasing their first home together and welcoming a Dachshund named Peroni into their family.

Mal’s bold move to ditch fillers and embrace her natural beauty is resonating with fans and adding fuel to the growing movement away from cosmetic enhancements. As more stars follow suit, the UK’s aesthetics industry may need to brace for a new era where less is more.
