Carlos Rodón’s wife confronts the umpire, accusing bias right after the Yankees’ nail-biting win

The New York Yankees emerged victorious in a thrilling 8-4 win against the Houston Astros on Thursday, clinching two out of three games in their heated series. However, the celebration was overshadowed by fiery controversy surrounding the umpires’ inconsistent strike zone calls, which sparked outrage among fans, players, and even the wife of Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón, Ashley Rodón.

Ashley took to X to voice her frustration, slamming the umpiring crew for what she described as an “absolutely horrendous” strike zone throughout the series. “GESH,” she exclaimed, later adding, “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS CREW.” Her pointed remarks echoed the sentiments of many Yankees fans who felt the officiating was uneven and unfairly impacted the games.

Despite the umpiring challenges, Carlos Rodón, a three-time MLB All-Star, delivered a stellar performance, securing his 16th win of the season. Over six innings, he struck out three batters, navigating the contentious strike zone with poise. However, Ashley was far from satisfied, questioning how hitters could possibly adapt to such inconsistency. “How are you supposed to know what the zone is as a hitter….. zero consistency at all,” she wrote on X, highlighting the difficulty players faced in strategizing at the plate.

The umpiring drama wasn’t limited to the strike zone. A controversial call at third base further fueled the Yankees’ frustration. In a pivotal moment, Astros star Jose Altuve hit a soft liner toward third, where Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon appeared to make the catch but dropped the ball during the transfer. The third base umpire ruled it a no-catch, a decision that left the Yankees fuming and added to the growing tension.

The series’ second game on Wednesday saw tempers flare even higher. Yankees manager Aaron Boone and relief pitcher Devin Williams were ejected after heated exchanges with the home plate umpire over pitches they believed were wrongly called as balls. Boone’s animated outburst underscored the team’s mounting frustration, while Williams’ ejection came after he vocally challenged the umpire’s decisions. Even Jazz Chisholm, called out on strikes, couldn’t hide his exasperation with the officiating.

As the dust settled from the Astros series, the Yankees returned to the Bronx on Friday to face the Toronto Blue Jays in a new three-game series. While the team’s resilience shone through in their victory, Ashley Rodón’s outspoken criticism and the team’s fiery reactions have put the spotlight on the need for greater consistency in umpiring. For now, the Yankees and their fans are left hoping for a fairer strike zone as they continue their push through the season.
