The Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off their second Super Bowl victory in February, continue to bolster their already formidable roster. Last season, the Eagles showcased dominance across offense, defense, and special teams, leaving few weaknesses for opponents to exploit. Their running game, however, stood out as their supreme strength, averaging an NFC-best 179.3 rushing yards per game, leading a conference that boasted four of the NFL’s top five rushing offenses.

On Friday afternoon, the Eagles made a surprising move to strengthen their backfield even further. The team announced they have claimed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Keilan Robinson off waivers, waiving wide receiver Ife Adeyi to make room on their 90-man roster. Robinson, a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was released by the Jaguars on Thursday, hitting the waiver wire just a day before finding his new home in Philadelphia.
In Jacksonville, Robinson’s role was primarily focused on special teams, where he appeared in six games as a rookie and returned two kickoffs for 34 yards. With Philadelphia’s backfield already stacked, it’s likely the Eagles will utilize Robinson in a similar capacity. The team’s running game is led by MVP candidate Saquon Barkley, who delivered a staggering 2,000-yard season in 2024, coming tantalizingly close to breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record, potentially thwarted only by conservative coaching decisions. Complementing Barkley are Will Shipley and AJ Dillon, the latter bringing four years of experience as a featured back with the Green Bay Packers.
As the Eagles progress through Organized Team Activities (OTAs), they are gearing up for a one-day mandatory minicamp on June 10. The addition of Robinson signals Philadelphia’s commitment to maintaining depth and versatility, ensuring their roster remains a force to be reckoned with in the 2025 season.
