Chelsea in Shock as Stamford Bridge’s Golden Boy Secretly ‘Dreams of Real Madrid’ — €130M Midfielder Could Force Summer Exit

Chelsea’s midfield maestro, Enzo Fernandez, has sent shockwaves through Stamford Bridge with whispers of his burning desire to join Spanish giants Real Madrid. According to a bombshell report from Defensa Central, the 24-year-old Argentine star, who dazzled in Chelsea’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool last weekend, has his heart set on a dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu. With Real Madrid scouts reportedly left in awe of his “fantastic performance” against the Reds, speculation is mounting that Fernandez could push for a blockbuster transfer in the summer of 2026.

Since his £106.8m (€122.5m, $143.6m) move from Benfica to Chelsea in February 2023, Fernandez has cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s elite midfielders. Boasting 19 goals and 24 assists in 125 appearances, the World Cup winner has been a cornerstone of Enzo Maresca’s squad, playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s Conference League triumph last season and their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup victory. Yet, despite his glittering record and long-term contract, sources suggest Chelsea could be open to cashing in—if the price is right.

Real Madrid’s interest in Fernandez is nothing new. The LaLiga and Champions League titans have tracked the midfielder since his Benfica days but baulked at the hefty fee Chelsea ultimately paid. Now, with Fernandez valued at a staggering €130m (£113m, $152m) by the Blues, Madrid’s pursuit faces a familiar hurdle. According to TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher, Fernandez emerged as a “priority” for Los Blancos as early as May 2023, with Spanish media linking him to a potential move in the summer of 2025 that never materialized.

However, TEAMtalk’s insider Dean Jones reveals that Madrid’s interest remains very much alive. “Chelsea contacts I have spoken to seem to believe there is a possibility the club would listen to offers for Enzo Fernandez at the right price,” Jones said. “There is no plan to actively offload him, but he has been linked with Real Madrid regularly over the past year, and there is an expectation that Madrid will keep tabs on him for next summer’s transfer window.”

Chelsea’s valuation of Fernandez reflects his stellar performances and long-term contract, but it may prove a sticking point for Madrid, who are already stacked with world-class midfielders like Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga. With ambitions to reclaim the LaLiga title and dominate in the Champions League, signing Fernandez is not an urgent priority for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Yet, Defensa Central claims the midfielder’s lifelong dream of donning the famous white jersey could tip the scales, with Fernandez reportedly “delighted” at the prospect of joining the European giants.

Jones added, “He cost a lot of money when Chelsea bought him, and given he has performed well and has a long contract in place, I would expect them to set an even higher figure on him now. But this Madrid interest is not going away, and I would take it pretty seriously. I don’t think it would be impossible to get him if they are truly willing to stump up some serious cash.”

While Fernandez’s potential exit looms large, Chelsea are not standing still. TEAMtalk sources reveal the Blues are preparing a record-breaking bid for one of the Premier League’s top forwards, signaling their intent to remain competitive. Additionally, Chelsea have their eyes on a Ukrainian international star, who has also caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Meanwhile, Juventus have responded to Chelsea’s recent bid for their young talent Kenan Yildiz, adding another layer of intrigue to the Blues’ transfer strategy.

As the summer of 2026 approaches, all eyes will be on Fernandez and whether his dream of joining Real Madrid becomes a reality. For Chelsea, losing their golden boy would be a bitter pill to swallow, but with a €130m price tag, the Blues could reinvest heavily to reshape their squad. One thing is certain: the saga of Enzo Fernandez is far from over, and the football world will be watching closely.
