The Philadelphia Eagles, reigning Super Bowl champions, have bolstered their roster by claiming former Texas Longhorns running back Keilan Robinson off waivers, as announced on Friday. This move comes shortly after the Jacksonville Jaguars, who drafted Robinson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, released him.
Robinson, a Washington D.C. native, brings a dynamic skill set to Philadelphia. During his three seasons at Texas, he appeared in 37 games, scoring 11 total touchdowns, including two on special teams. His versatility was on full display in the 2023 season, particularly in the regular season finale against Texas Tech, where he recorded a 10-yard receiving touchdown and a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown. The following week, in the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State, Robinson added four carries for 75 yards and two rushing touchdowns, contributing to Texas’ dominant 49-21 victory.

Before his time at Texas, Robinson began his collegiate career at Alabama in 2019 under legendary coach Nick Saban. As a freshman, he rushed for 254 yards on 39 carries and scored two touchdowns. Transferring to Texas in 2021, he served as a valuable depth piece in the Longhorns’ backfield, achieving career highs with 45 carries and 322 rushing yards, along with three rushing touchdowns.
In his rookie season with the Jaguars, Robinson started on injured reserve but returned to play in six games, primarily on special teams. He recorded two kickoff returns for 34 yards in a Week 14 win over the Tennessee Titans, though his offensive role was limited to just five snaps without a touch.
Now, Robinson joins a talented group of former Texas Longhorns on the Eagles’ roster, including safety Andrew Mukuba (second-round pick, 2025), offensive tackle Cam Williams (sixth-round pick, 2025), and defensive tackle Moro Ojomo. As the Eagles gear up for the preseason, starting August 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Robinson will aim to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, leveraging his speed and special teams prowess to make an impact.
