“I GAVE UP!” – ‘Married at First Sight’ Groom’s Shocking Confession Before Leaving the Show in Disappointment

Joe Wood, the 31-year-old personal trainer from Married at First Sight UK, has candidly admitted to “mistakes” following his dramatic exit from the experiment.

Joe married 29-year-old aesthetics practitioner Maeve Mathieson at the show’s outset, and the pair initially appeared to connect deeply. They even professed their love during a commitment ceremony, raising hopes for a lasting match.

However, cracks soon emerged. Last week, Joe confided in fellow groom Ashley Dommett that he was uncertain about his feelings for Maeve. The situation worsened when Joe left her alone to grieve with his family after his grandfather’s death, leading to a week of no contact, as reported by OK!.

Tensions exploded upon Joe’s return to the couples’ retreat. Maeve, furious at being abandoned, confronted him, sparking a heated argument. In a shocking moment, Joe declared the marriage “over” and abruptly quit the show.

In Monday night’s episode (October 27), Maeve attended the final commitment ceremony solo. Expert Mel Schilling read Joe’s letter, in which he explained his emotions and extended well-wishes to Maeve.

Breaking his silence on Instagram the next day (October 28), Joe posted alongside photos with loved ones: “Perspective. WELL.. what a whirlwind. Not sure whether I’ve wanted to cry or laugh.

“I’ve been torn to pieces whether I’ve wanted to defend myself this week. Angry, conflicted and admittedly feeling sorry for myself at times.

“However, I’ve taken the time for myself, done the things I love with the people that I care about, and it’s just put the whole thing into perspective.

“If people want to waste their energy into something that they have no context or accurate details about, that’s entirely up to them. The people around me know who I am, what I stand for and what I’ve been through and that’s all that counts.”

He added reflectively: “I’ve made many mistakes in my life, and I’m sure I will make more. However, if I can look at myself in the mirror everyday and be proud of what I see and what I’ve become, then the outside noise is irrelevant. Love.”

Fans flooded the comments with support. One wrote: “Be proud of yourself.” Another said: “You’ve done absolutely nothing wrong. There will always be people who have something to say, no matter what you do – that’s just life. What matters most is that you stay true to yourself…”

A third encouraged: “Don’t let them get you down. You’re amazing,” while another added: “Aww you got this. Surround yourself in white light and protect that energy.”
