The investment is backed by elite production. Through nine games, Pickens has been a model of consistency and big-play ability, hauling in 49 receptions for 764 yards and six touchdowns. He’s averaging a robust 15.6 yards per catch and has been held under 50 receiving yards just once all season.

The fact that Dallas is even in this position is a testament to their shrewdness. Pickens arrived in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who grew frustrated with his inconsistency and behavior despite his undeniable talent. The Cowboys, recognizing a potential superstar in need of a new environment, pounced, sending a third-round and a fifth-round pick to acquire him. In Dallas, paired with the elite route-running of CeeDee Lamb, Pickens has flourished, shedding the “frustrating” label and becoming a cornerstone of the offense.
