Shocking truth: Eagles coach reveals they’re struggling with Tush Push… and the NFL just let them keep doing it!

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni dropped a surprising revelation at the team’s mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, admitting that even their highly effective “Tush Push” play needs significant improvement for the 2025 season. Despite the play’s dominance, Sirianni emphasized the need to refine it further as opponents gear up to counter it.

“Excited about being able to continue to grow that play,” Sirianni said, according to a team transcript (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk). “We have a lot of work to do to continue that success. It just doesn’t happen. The same work that we needed to put into it last year, we’ll even have to be better because we know teams are going to focus on it to try to stop it.”

The Tush Push, a quarterback sneak powered by teammates pushing from behind, has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ short-yardage strategy. Since 2022, the team has converted an impressive 85.5 percent of their Tush Push attempts for either a first down or a touchdown, per ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler. Yet, Sirianni believes there’s room to elevate the play’s execution, coaching, and complementary tactics to stay ahead of the competition.

The NFL, however, nearly put an end to the Tush Push altogether. During the league’s spring meetings in Minneapolis in May, the Green Bay Packers proposed banning any pushing or pulling of a ball-carrier, which would have effectively outlawed the play. The proposal needed 24 votes to pass but fell short at 22-10, allowing the Eagles to continue exploiting their signature move.

As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Eagles face heightened scrutiny, with opponents desperate to crack the code on their unstoppable play. Sirianni remains laser-focused on what he can control—perfecting the Tush Push and its complementary strategies. With Philadelphia aiming for back-to-back Super Bowl titles, the pressure is on to make their already formidable weapon even more lethal in 2025.
