Just like the entire Minnesota Vikings organization, the 2025 season has definitely not gone how Christian Darrisaw envisioned. A series of questions and health uncertainties have turned this year into a nightmare for the team’s elite left tackle.
From Bright Hopes to Harsh Reality
Optimism filled the air during the offseason when Darrisaw took part in mandatory minicamp drills just months after suffering a torn ACL. Excitement grew when he participated in training camp and began the regular season without being placed on the PUP list.

However, since then, it’s been nothing but a string of questions. Darrisaw’s health status has fluctuated literally every week, creating a volatile and disappointing season. Now, with the Vikings officially out of playoff contention, the big question looms: Should the team shut down Darrisaw for the final three games?
A Concerning Silence
On Thursday, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert shared notable news: Darrisaw declined to comment on his status for the rest of the season.
“Christian Darrisaw said he preferred not to talk today when approached in the locker room. He said he couldn’t answer a question about whether he will play again this season.”
This silence only thickens the cloud of mystery and concern surrounding the star’s injury.
Looking Back: A Costly “Too-Soon Return”?
In hindsight, one could easily argue Darrisaw returned too soon this year.
His comeback game was in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and it seemed he was good to go for the rest of the season. But reality proved otherwise:
He has missed two more games (Week 12 & 14).
In his 10 starts this year, he’s played 100% of offensive snaps in only five of them.
The decision to play him in Week 3 now looks like one the Vikings wish they could take back.
Dual Consequences: Performance & Future
The early return impacted not only immediate performance but also threatened Darrisaw’s long-term future. A less-than-fully-recovered Darrisaw, while better than backup Justin Skule (who allowed 7 QB pressures in just 2 games), clearly had a knee that wasn’t recovered enough to endure a full NFL season’s wear-and-tear.
Minnesota should have been more focused on the future of their premier left tackle, rather than rushing him back in a season where championship hopes were already fragile.
A Difficult Equation for 2026
The current situation presents the Vikings with a dilemma:
Shut him down: Protect their most valuable offensive asset, giving him a long offseason to fully recover for 2026.
Let him play on: Help Darrisaw regain rhythm and confidence, but risk further significant injury.
With silence from Darrisaw himself, it’s clear the issue may be not just physical, but also mental. The 2025 season is no longer about results, but about protecting the future of Christian Darrisaw—a task the Vikings arguably failed at starting in Week 3.
