According to reliable sources from Fabrizio Romano and Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna, Napoli are almost certain to activate the permanent transfer clause for Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United in the summer of 2026.

Deal Details: Højlund is currently on loan at Napoli from the summer of 2025 with a €6 million loan fee. The buy option is set at €44 million, becoming obligatory if Napoli qualify for the Champions League (which they are well-positioned to do). The total package is around €50 million.
Romano confirmed on YouTube: “Great news for Man United because Napoli have confirmed that activating the obligation to buy Højlund is just a formality. This will happen in 2026… United will receive €50 million (€44 million obligation + €6 million loan fee).”
Giovanni Manna (Napoli) also told Corriere dello Sport: “We have the option and obligation to buy if we qualify for the Champions League. The player sees himself as a Napoli player, and so do we… At the moment, I think it’s just a formality.”
Impact on Manchester United This is fantastic news for the Red Devils amid tight financial constraints:
A fresh €50 million injection will allow United to invest heavily in the summer 2026 transfer window (potentially targeting a midfielder, defender, or new striker under Ruben Amorim).Højlund has shone at Napoli (around 7-9 goals this season), proving his potential but no longer fitting at Old Trafford following new signings like Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo.
United have offloaded Højlund’s high wages and turned a profit on the striker they bought for €80 million from Atalanta in 2023.
Højlund’s Future At just 22, Højlund is reviving his career under Antonio Conte, becoming a key pillar for Napoli. If the transfer becomes permanent, he will have a release clause of around €85 million starting from summer 2027.
Man United fans: It’s bittersweet, but this is a win-win deal—freeing up wages and bringing in big money for a rebuild. The 2026 offseason promises to be exciting!
