LONDON DROP A BOMBSHELL: Martin Odegaard update after new knee injury

Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard has delivered a cautiously optimistic update on his latest knee injury, but the news still landed like a bombshell at the Emirates.

Just days after limping through the final minutes of Thursday night’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Brentford, the Norwegian midfielder admitted he fears the worst when he woke up sore on Friday morning. The same left knee that sidelined him for eight games back in October is once again causing major concern.

Speaking to Arsenal’s media team, Ødegaard revealed exactly how the latest setback happened:

“I picked up a bit of an injury when they scored their goal, but hopefully it’s not too bad. We’ll see how it goes in the build-up to today’s game and over the next few days. I tried to clear the ball as it came down, but instead kicked into the player a bit, and ended up over-stretching my leg, which pinched the knee.

“I was able to carry on, but on Friday morning it was very sore, so I was worried of course, but thankfully it looks like it’s not too bad.”

The 27-year-old even managed a half-smile when he said those last words, but the tone in his voice told a different story. Arsenal fans watching the interview could be forgiven for holding their breath.

According to respected Arsenal reporter Simon Collings of the Evening Standard, the reality on the ground is far more pessimistic. Collings has been told it is “very unlikely” Ødegaard will be involved in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wigan Athletic at the Emirates.

Less than 72 hours after the collision with Brentford’s goalscorer, rushing the skipper back would be reckless. Arsenal simply cannot afford to lose their captain for another extended period.

The timing could hardly be worse. Arsenal are fighting on four fronts, and Ødegaard has been the heartbeat of Mikel Arteta’s side since returning from that first knee issue in December. His vision, leadership, and ability to unlock defences have been crucial in keeping the Gunners in the Premier League title race.

Now the club faces an anxious wait. Medical scans are expected in the coming days to determine the exact extent of the damage. In the meantime, Arsenal will be without their most influential midfielder for what was supposed to be a straightforward cup tie against League One opposition.

Arsenal fans have been here before. They remember the frustration of October all too well. But this time, Ødegaard himself sounds more positive than the initial panic suggested.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad,” he repeated.

For now, that small note of hope is all the Emirates has to cling to.

Come on, Martin. Get well soon. The Arsenal captain is too important to be missing for long.
