IT’S DONE! Liverpool STUN the market with £35m capture of Dortmund’s next big thing—Premier League on RED ALERT.

Liverpool have pulled off one of the smartest deals of the summer, sealing the £35 million signing of Borussia Dortmund’s explosive Swedish sensation Daniel Svensson.

The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms and will put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Anfield, becoming Arne Slot’s first major arrival as the Reds prepare to defend their Premier League crown.

This is the kind of coup that leaves the rest of the Premier League scrambling. While others are throwing money at inflated price tags, Liverpool have nicked a ready-made star for a fee that already looks like daylight robbery.

Svensson, who only arrived at Dortmund from Nordsjælland in February 2025 (first on loan, then permanent for a modest fee), has exploded into one of Europe’s most exciting young full-backs/midfielders. Standing 6ft tall, lightning quick, and built like a tank, the Sweden international has everything Liverpool’s high-pressing, front-foot style demands.

Liverpool’s left-back revolution is complete.

Milos Kerkez was the £40m statement signing last summer and has been outstanding, but Andy Robertson’s £160k-a-week deal expires in 2026 and the writing has been on the wall for some time. Kostas Tsimikas is expected to leave after his Roma loan, meaning Slot needed fresh legs and serious competition on the left.

Enter Svensson – the ultimate problem solver.

The kid can play orthodox left-back, left wing-back in a back three, wide midfielder in a 4-3-3, or even central midfield. He’s done it all for club and country. This season alone he’s bagged two Champions League goals in just seven appearances while terrorising full-backs up and down the Bundesliga.

Liverpool’s recruitment team are said to have been “blown away” by his physicality, intensity in the press, and ability to carry the ball out from the back. One Anfield insider told us: “He’s exactly what we need – a warrior who can play in multiple systems and never hides.”

Dortmund didn’t want to sell. Svensson only signed a deal until 2029 last summer and had become a key part of their setup. But when Liverpool came calling with £35m and the chance to fulfil his “dream” of playing in the Premier League, the Yellow Wall had no choice.

Arsenal and Inter Milan were both circling, but the Reds moved decisively. Sporting director Richard Hughes and Slot himself were instrumental in getting the deal over the line quickly.

What this means for Slot’s squad

Svensson isn’t just backup for Kerkez – he’s genuine competition. The pair could even rotate or play together in certain systems. His ability to tuck into midfield gives Slot the tactical flexibility he’s craved all season as Liverpool battle on four fronts.

One source close to the player added: “Daniel has been obsessed with the Premier League since he was a kid. When Liverpool showed serious interest, there was only ever going to be one outcome.”

Premier League on red alert.

With this signing, Liverpool have once again shown why they’re the benchmark. After spending nearly £450m last summer, they’re back at it – smarter, hungrier, and more ruthless than ever.

Daniel Svensson isn’t just joining Liverpool.

He’s arriving to help them dominate.

Welcome to Anfield, Dan. The Kop is going to love you.
