LIVERPOOL JUST DROPPED A TRANSFER BOMB OUT OF NOWHERE! They’ve COMPLETED a shocking DEAL to SELL their 19-year-old winger to Norwegian side Molde. The FEE is CONFIRMED: €750k!

In a move that has left Liverpool fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief, the Reds have quietly completed the permanent sale of highly-rated young winger Trent Kone-Doherty to Norwegian club Molde — and the deal is already 100% done.

While the English transfer window slammed shut weeks ago, Norway’s winter window remains wide open until March 27… and Liverpool wasted no time cashing in.

The most trusted voice on all things Anfield, The Times’ Paul Joyce, dropped the bombshell on X this morning:

“Liverpool winger Trent Kone-Doherty, 19, has joined Norwegian side Molde in a €750,000 deal subject to international clearance. A buy-back clause as well as a sell-on clause has been negotiated into the deal.”

That’s right — €750,000 (£658,000) for the Republic of Ireland youth international who only ever made TWO senior appearances for the first team.

Liverpool originally snapped up Kone-Doherty from Derry City back in the summer of 2022 for just £150,000. Three-and-a-half years later, they’ve turned a tidy profit on a player who never quite broke into Arne Slot’s senior plans.

The 19-year-old made his debut as a substitute in the FA Cup at Plymouth Argyle in February 2025 and came off the bench again against Crystal Palace last October. Beyond that, he was a regular at U18, U19 and most recently U21 level, but first-team minutes were almost non-existent.

Molde — former Norwegian champions as recently as 2022 — finished a dismal 10th last season, but clearly see massive potential in the young Irish winger.

Liverpool have protected themselves beautifully with two crucial clauses:

  • A buy-back clause (so they can bring him back if he explodes)
  • A sell-on clause (so they get a cut of any future sale)

The move was officially confirmed on Liverpool’s website this afternoon with a classy club statement:

“The winger joins the Norwegian top-flight side after almost four years with the Reds. He arrived at the LFC Academy during the summer of 2022 and featured regularly at U18, U19 and most recently U21 level. Kone-Doherty also made two senior appearances, debuting as a substitute at Plymouth Argyle in the Emirates FA Cup in February 2025 and then coming off the bench against Crystal Palace last October. Everyone at LFC wishes Trent the best of luck in his future career.”

So there you have it — a surprise January/February departure that nobody saw coming.

Trent Kone-Doherty is now officially a Molde player.

What a way to start the weekend, Reds. 💥
