Liverpool are set for a major squad overhaul this summer, with significant movement both outgoing and incoming as Arne Slot prepares to reshape his side for the challenges ahead.
End of an Era as Alisson Becker Heads for Juventus
One of the biggest stories emerging from Anfield is the expected departure of goalkeeper Alisson Becker. A journalist who specialises in Liverpool coverage, David Lynch, is increasingly convinced that the Brazilian will join Juventus this summer.
Widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever goalkeepers alongside legends Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar, Alisson has enjoyed a hugely successful spell at the club. However, with just one year remaining on his contract, he has given the green light to a new chapter in Serie A.
Liverpool maintain an excellent relationship with their No.1 and will not force him out if he wishes to stay. Equally, they will not block a move to Turin should he choose to leave, provided their valuation is met. Lynch told Anfield Index that the volume of “smoke” around the situation suggests a departure is likely.
“I’d be surprised at this point,” Lynch said when asked if Alisson would still be at Anfield next season. He emphasised that the decision rests heavily with the player, while Liverpool’s stance is supportive as long as their transfer requirements are satisfied.
The exit of such a commanding presence, combined with the impending departures of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, would represent a significant drain on experience and leadership at Anfield.
£20m Reunion Arne Slot Will Love
Amid the outgoing movement, Liverpool have the opportunity to complete a shrewd and familiar signing that aligns perfectly with Slot’s vision. The club is advancing on a deal for versatile right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, who could be secured for around £20 million.
Currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, the Dutch defender is a known quantity to Slot from their successful time together at Feyenoord. Liverpool showed interest in January when injuries ravaged their defensive options, though a move proved unfeasible at the time.
With his loan spell ending and no return to Sunderland on the cards, Geertruida is available. Sources indicate a reunion is realistic, despite competition from Leeds United, who believe they hold an advantage.
Geertruida would arrive as a trusted, reliable option at right-back. Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to find his best form in his debut season on Merseyside, while Conor Bradley remains raw and faces a lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in January.
At a modest £20m fee, the signing would represent excellent value. It would not restrict Liverpool’s ability to invest more heavily in priority areas such as the flanks and central midfield, while giving Slot a player he knows intimately and can rely upon immediately.
FSG U-Turn: Full Backing for Arne Slot
Behind the scenes, Liverpool’s owners, FSG, have performed a notable shift in their approach to the manager. Plans for a formal end-of-season review to assess Slot’s position have been shelved, as the hierarchy have already concluded he is the right man to lead the club forward.
According to reporter Ben Jacobs, Liverpool view three key mitigating factors behind the team’s disappointing campaign: the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, the sharp decline in Mohamed Salah’s form, and the high number of changes made to the starting lineup in one summer.
These elements are seen as legitimate explanations rather than excuses. Slot will still need to demonstrate progress, but the confidence from FSG provides him with stability and the platform to rebuild.
With Alisson potentially heading to Juventus and reinforcements like Geertruida incoming, Liverpool are entering a pivotal summer. The £20m move for Slot’s “forgotten son” from RB Leipzig could prove one of the smartest and most seamless pieces of business as the Reds look to restore their competitive edge.
