Mikel Arteta has committed his future to Arsenal, with the Gunners manager determined to build on a historic Premier League triumph despite the painful disappointment of falling short in the Champions League final.
Arteta guided Arsenal to their first English top-flight title since 2004 this season, ending a long wait for domestic supremacy. However, European glory narrowly eluded the north London club as they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. Arsenal took an early lead, but PSG fought back and eventually triumphed on penalties.
Despite the gut-wrenching conclusion to their European campaign, sources close to the club insist the season should be viewed as a major success — one that has only strengthened Arteta’s position and resolve to remain at the Emirates Stadium.
New Contract Talks Accelerating
TEAMtalk understands that Arsenal’s hierarchy are eager to reward Arteta with a new contract and hope to finalise the agreement before the start of pre-season.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey reports that groundwork for a new deal has already been completed. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta and Arteta have held positive discussions, with both parties aligned on the club’s direction. Bailey revealed that further talks were deliberately delayed until after the season, but the club now intends to move swiftly.
“Arsenal have already spoken to Arteta’s camp and groundwork has been done, but they were all agreed things would not accelerate until after the season,” Bailey said.
“Arsenal are so happy with how things are going, but not just on-field, off-field too – the club are aligned in their thinking from the owners, to hierarchy including Andrea Berta to Arteta and his staff, and the squad. They are progressing all the time.”
Arteta “Happy” and “Does Not Want to Leave”
Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Arteta himself is content at Arsenal and has no intention of departing this summer. The Spaniard is said to be particularly pleased with the squad he has assembled and the backing he has received from the board.
Earlier this month, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Arsenal and Arteta were already “in conversations” over a new contract, with more detailed talks scheduled post-season.
Bailey added: “Arteta loves this squad and he does not want to leave. Winning the Premier League is just the start and that will include new terms for him and those are not far away. Sources have told us that they fully believe the new deal will be done before the start of the season, indeed the club would like this put to bed before pre-season begins.”
A New Era of Stability
This positive development marks a significant shift from 12 months ago, when questions lingered over the long-term futures of key players such as William Saliba and Bukayo Saka. Those concerns now appear to be in the past, reflecting Arsenal’s growing stability and upward trajectory under Arteta’s leadership.
The alignment between ownership, sporting director, manager, and squad has created a cohesive environment that few clubs can match. With the Premier League trophy secured and a strong foundation in place, Arsenal are well-positioned to challenge consistently on both domestic and European fronts next season.
While the Champions League final defeat to PSG will sting in the short term, the bigger picture for Arsenal fans is encouraging. Mikel Arteta is staying — and the project is far from finished.
