Shocking Tax Scandal Uncovered, RHONJ Star Furiously Hangs Up Mid-Interview!

Teresa Giudice, the iconic star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey (RHONJ), abruptly ended a TV interview with Chicago’s WGN Morning News on Friday, June 20, 2025, after being pressed about her ongoing tax troubles. The 53-year-old reality TV veteran, visibly rattled, declared, “Let’s just hang up,” before slamming her laptop shut and cutting off the conversation.

The interview, intended to promote Giudice’s upcoming live show at Zanies Comedy Night Club in Rosemont, Illinois, on June 29, took a contentious turn when WGN host Larry Potash, 49, brought up the sensitive topic of her past and present financial issues. Referencing the 2014 federal case in which Teresa and her ex-husband Joe Giudice pleaded guilty to 41 counts of fraud, Potash asked why a “family doesn’t pay their taxes for years.” The question appeared to catch Teresa off guard, prompting her to respond, “What family are you talking about?” When Potash clarified he was referring to the Giudices’ “fraud charges,” Teresa swiftly ended the interview, stating, “Okay, I’m hanging up. That’s it.”

The 2014 fraud case led to significant consequences for the Giudice family. Teresa served 11 months in prison, while Joe, after completing a 41-month sentence, was deported to his native Italy in 2019, where he remains unable to return to the U.S. Adding to the drama, recent court documents obtained by Us Weekly in March 2025 revealed that Teresa and her second husband, Luis “Louie” Ruelas, are grappling with approximately $3 million in tax liens. According to the IRS, tax liens are issued against a person’s property when they fail to pay tax debts, signaling serious financial strain for the couple.

The WGN interview got off to a rocky start when the network aired a montage of Teresa’s most explosive RHONJ moments, including her infamous clashes with sister-in-law Melissa Gorga. Co-host Robin Baumgarten, alongside Potash, noted that Teresa had “been through divorce [and] prison time” before asking if she regretted any of her on-screen outbursts. “Obviously! I’ve been on TV 18 years,” Teresa replied, offering a rare moment of reflection.

When questioned about her future on RHONJ amid Bravo’s plans to reimagine the show following a production hiatus, Teresa remained cautiously optimistic. “I hope, I’m the OG, yes,” she said. “We’ll see what happens! You have to ask Bravo for that.” However, the interview quickly unraveled when the tax issue was raised, leading to her dramatic exit. Potash, unfazed, quipped that Teresa “didn’t like that question” and noted that controversy is “what reality shows are made of,” while pointing out Joe’s ongoing exile in Italy.

Teresa’s daughter, Gia Giudice, 24, recently addressed the family’s financial woes on her Casual Chaos podcast in March 2025, assuring fans that “everything is under control.” Gia emphasized her mother’s relentless work ethic, stating, “My mom has been the sole provider for my sisters and me since the minute my father left for prison. She has been working her ass off to make sure that my sisters and I live a stable life and that my family is financially stable.” She also praised her stepfather, Luis, for his support, adding, “My stepdad, Luis, is the most amazing stepfather. He treats my sisters and me like we are his own. He is also working on getting everything resolved as well. Everything’s going to be fine.”

Legal expert Margery Greenberg Esq., who is not involved in the case, provided insight to Us Weekly in March 2025, clarifying that Teresa and Luis’s current tax liens differ significantly from the 2014 fraud case. “It doesn’t look like Teresa and Louie have charges against them,” Greenberg explained. However, she noted the couple faces a “substantial tax debt,” which could lead to severe consequences, such as the government seizing assets or foreclosing on their home. This, she added, could impact the day-to-day lifestyle of Teresa’s youngest daughter, who still lives at home.

Even Teresa’s RHONJ rival, Margaret Josephs, expressed sympathy for her co-star’s predicament in an April 2025 interview with Us Weekly. “I find it very sad,” Josephs said. “I don’t want anything bad for Teresa ever. I never want anything bad to happen to her, and that’s why I always spoke up.”

As Teresa navigates this latest scandal, her abrupt exit from the WGN interview underscores the ongoing challenges she faces in balancing her public persona with her private struggles. With her live show approaching and RHONJ’s future uncertain, all eyes remain on the reality TV star as she confronts her past and present controversies.
