As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the 2025 NFL season, all eyes are on linebacker Nick Bolton, a player whose impact transcends the traditional role of a defensive anchor. In a recent episode of our Chiefs insider series, we dove deep into what makes Bolton not just the heartbeat of Kansas City’s defense but a looming menace for every offense in the league.
A Defensive Dynamo Ready to Dominate
Bolton has already cemented himself as a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ defense, but calling him merely the “backbone” feels like an understatement. His relentless pursuit of the ball, bone-crushing tackles, and uncanny ability to read plays have elevated him to a level where he’s not just stopping plays—he’s dismantling entire game plans. With his combination of speed, instincts, and raw power, Bolton is poised to terrorize quarterbacks and running backs across the NFL in 2025.
In our latest episode, we unpacked the expectations for Bolton as he enters a pivotal season. Analysts and coaches alike are buzzing about his potential to redefine the linebacker position. His ability to cover tight ends, blitz with precision, and rally his teammates makes him a triple threat that opposing coordinators lose sleep over.

Chiefs’ Future on the Line: Josh Simmons Joins the Fold
While Bolton anchors the defense, the Chiefs are also bolstering their offensive line to protect their high-octane attack. Head coach Andy Reid recently shared insights on Josh Simmons, a promising lineman whose addition could be a game-changer. Here’s a glimpse into Reid’s thoughts from a partial transcript of his recent comments:
Q: Andy, when do you see him ready to go? Training Camp? Is that a reasonable timeline?
Reid: “He’ll definitely be ready for training camp. He’ll be able to do some stuff up until then.”
Simmons, a versatile and highly touted prospect, was a standout at the combine and during pre-draft visits. Reid emphasized the thorough evaluation process, noting:
Q: How important was the visit that he had here, as far as both the medical side, also just getting to know the kid?
Reid: “We had a chance to bring him here. We met with him at the combine, so we had that visit with him. We brought him up here for one of the 30 visits, had a good visit with him there. Had a zoom visit with him a couple of times, as late as yesterday. Again, just to make sure we’re doing our homework.”
So, what makes Simmons such a perfect fit? Reid didn’t hold back:
Q: What did you really see lacking in the lineman area that makes you think that Josh Simmons could really close the gap there and be a good fit for the team if he’s able to get healthy?
Reid: “What you heard from the guys announcing this is true, he would have been a top five or ten pick. It’s a position we could use some good players at, just in addition of good players. In particular, the left tackle spot, if and when he can jump in there. He’s flexible so he can play any spot, we felt like he was a true left tackle.”
Simmons’ versatility and prowess in both the run and pass game make him an ideal candidate to shore up the Chiefs’ offensive line, particularly at left tackle. Reid elaborated:
Q: What about his style and traits that fit that you like to do in the offensive line?
Reid: “I think he’s good in the run and the pass game. But obviously you’re looking for guys that can anchor down in the pass game. That becomes important, especially on the left side with a right-handed quarterback. We have such good players that we go against that play that defensive end spot, so it’s important that you find a guy who can do that.”
With Simmons protecting the quarterback’s blind side, the Chiefs’ offense—already a juggernaut—could become even more unstoppable, giving Bolton and the defense more opportunities to wreak havoc.
Bolton’s Reign of Terror Awaits
As we edge closer to the 2025 NFL campaign, the spotlight on Nick Bolton grows brighter. His ability to disrupt offenses, combined with the Chiefs’ strategic additions like Simmons, signals a team ready to dominate on both sides of the ball. Bolton isn’t just a linebacker; he’s a one-man wrecking crew, and the NFL is on notice.
