The Truth About Ariana Biermann: She’s Bankrolling Her Mom While Escaping the ‘Nepo Baby’ Label

The Real Housewives of Atlanta fans may not have been entirely surprised when Ariana Biermann revealed in the new Bravo series Next Gen NYC that her mom, former RHOA star Kim Zolciak, continues to borrow money from her to this day. Ever since her marriage to NFL linebacker Kroy Biermann was on the rocks, Zolciak’s financial struggles have long been a topic of conversation in the media.

Zolciak’s relationship with money first caused friction with Kandi Burruss in RHOA Season 2 (2009), when the Grammy-winning songwriter helped produce her pop song — only for Zolciak to cut Burruss out of a significant share of the profits from “Don’t Be Tardy for the Party.” This not only derailed the relationship of the two Housewives, but also ended the friendship between their daughters, who now star together on Next Gen NYC.

Despite Zolciak’s reputation for mismanaging her finances, or perhaps because of it, Ariana felt the need to clarify the comments she made about her mother’s relationship with her and money during a recent Watch What Happens Live appearance. Zolciak is already earning media attention with the salacious details of her divorce and eviction making the rounds, and it is clear that her daughter is ready to tell the truth about how she was affected by her parents’ messy financial situation while she was growing up, without adding unnecessarily to her mother’s burden.

The ‘Next Gen NYC’ Star Clarified Her Money Comments on ‘WWHL’

Ariana wanted to clarify her comments, as she felt the media unfairly singled out her mother when discussing how her earnings as a child star and influencer were spent. The Next Gen NYC star took issue with being labeled a nepo baby and pointed out that what she actually said on the show was that both of her parents used the money. In early episodes, she revealed that income from her childhood brand deals was never passed down to her. The aspiring fashion designer admitted she never even knew how much was taken—or what it was spent on—implying the funds were simply gone.

On her new Bravo series, Ariana revealed that she still helps her mom financially, acknowledging the challenges Zolciak faces raising young children amid a bitter divorce. The young reality star is doing her best not to let her parents’ messy split—and the financial strain that comes with it—damage her family relationships. Still, she admits it’s been difficult to remain close to her adoptive father, who continues to file contentious legal motions against her mother, further dragging out the divorce. Years spent as a “Housewife’s kid” seem to have forced Ariana to grow up fast and take on financial responsibility for her household at a young age—all while under intense public and media scrutiny.

Ariana has demonstrated she has no problem addressing perceived slights on Next Gen NYC, standing her ground against crypto-kid Charlie Zakkour when he dismissed her outright based on her parents’ media exposure, and against fashion heir Ava Dash when she claimed that Ariana’s fashion lacked a point of view. Ariana has a kooky sense of humor and is determined to be herself, reality TV cameras and judgmental nepo kids or not. Her blasé attitude about making a social faux-pas and her determination to be herself are not only a part of her quirky temperament. They are actually signs of Ariana’s maturity.

Ariana is already an experienced reality TV star, and with that comes a hard-earned ease in front of the camera. She is joined by her fellow “Housewive’s kids” Riley, Gia, and Brooks Marks in her new series, each of whom have learned similar lessons about being in the public eye through their parents’ relationship with the Real Housewives franchise.

The fact that Ariana and Riley were able to rebuild their friendship after their mothers fell out, that Gia never hesitated to defend her friends when faced with snide remarks or half-hearted apologies, and that Brooks found solidarity among his fellow “Housewives’ kids” when Charlie refused to stop making inappropriate comments about his sister, Chloe Marks, all point to one thing: these Bravo babies have grown up fast. Ariana having the maturity to not let the money issues in her family disrupt her relationship with her parents and siblings is not only admirable, it’s a sign that she is a mature star on the rise that everybody can root for.
