Not the first time – but possibly the last – Former TCU star and Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowler caught in legal scandal again – shocking the entire NFL.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and All-Pro returner KaVontae Turpin found himself in hot water again, arrested early Sunday morning on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to Collin County court records. The former TCU star, known for his electrifying play on the field, now faces scrutiny off it, with his latest legal troubles sending shockwaves through the NFL just two weeks before the Cowboys report to training camp on July 21.

Turpin was booked with a bond set at $500 for the marijuana charge and $1,000 for the weapon charge. The arrest has put Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer in an unwelcome spotlight, as the team prepares for the 2025 season. This isn’t Turpin’s first brush with the law, raising concerns about whether this could be his final misstep with the organization and the league.

Under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, Turpin is now subject to potential discipline, though the misdemeanor nature of the charges suggests he is unlikely to miss time on the field in 2025. Nevertheless, the incident has sparked conversations about his future with the Cowboys and in the NFL, with fans and analysts questioning whether this repeat offense could jeopardize his career.

Turpin, a 2024 Pro Bowler, is coming off a breakout season where he showcased his explosive playmaking ability. As a return specialist, he averaged an impressive 33.5 yards per kickoff return, highlighted by a jaw-dropping 99-yard touchdown return against the Washington Commanders. He also contributed 18 punt returns for 187 yards and a touchdown. On offense, Turpin recorded 31 receptions for 420 yards and two touchdowns as a wide receiver while occasionally lining up at running back, proving his versatility as a dynamic weapon in the Cowboys’ arsenal.

The Cowboys had high hopes for Turpin in 2025, planning to further integrate his game-changing speed into their offensive and special teams schemes. However, this latest scandal has cast a shadow over those plans, leaving the team and its fans wondering if the former TCU star can stay out of trouble and fulfill his immense potential. For now, all eyes are on Turpin as he navigates the fallout from this incident and the NFL’s response.
