Trey Lyles: A Versatile Forward to Fill the Void

One name generating buzz is Trey Lyles, a 10-year veteran and unrestricted free agent who most recently played for the Sacramento Kings. Standing at 6’9″, Lyles offers a skill set that aligns well with Golden State’s needs. Last season, he averaged 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 42% from the field and 34% from three-point range. Though his numbers may not jump off the page, Lyles has built a reputation as a reliable rotation forward who can stretch the floor, defend multiple positions, and adapt to various roles—whether as a power forward or a small-ball five.

Lyles could fill the void left by Kevon Looney, who recently signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. His ability to knock down three-pointers and provide defensive flexibility makes him an intriguing fit for the Warriors’ system, particularly as a bench contributor. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, “Trey Lyles, Malcolm Brogdon, Chris Boucher, and Gary Payton II are names to watch here. Malcolm Brogdon: A Veteran Leader with Playoff Pedigree

At 32 years old, Brogdon brings veteran leadership, playoff experience, and a strong two-way game. Despite being limited to 24 games last season due to injuries on a rebuilding Wizards squad, he averaged an impressive 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game. His ability to handle the ball, create plays, and defend at a high level makes him an ideal fit for a Warriors team looking to maximize Curry’s championship window.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that the Warriors are among several teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, and Minnesota Timberwolves, expressing interest in Brogdon. As Fischer noted, “The Wizards are open to sign-and-trade scenarios,” which could allow Golden State to acquire Brogdon without sacrificing significant assets. A post from NBA Central (@TheDunkCentral) on July 7, 2025, further confirmed the widespread interest in Brogdon, stating, “Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings, and Bucks are expected to show interest in Malcolm Brogdon, per Jake Fischer.”

The Warriors’ front office, led by General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., is taking a patient yet calculated approach to free agency. Rather than making impulsive moves, they are waiting for the market to settle and targeting value signings that complement their core of Curry, Butler, and Green. This strategy allows Golden State to maintain financial flexibility while pursuing players like Lyles and Brogdon, who can provide immediate impact without breaking the bank.
