7-word confession from F1 star to Messi – Special gift takes social media by storm!

Alpine racer Franco Colapinto, the 22-year-old Argentine sensation from Pilar, has captured hearts worldwide with a heartfelt gesture to football legend Lionel Messi. Colapinto gifted Messi a Formula Two helmet from his 2024 campaign, complete with a personal message inscribed on the visor: “Thank you so much for the joy.” The gift, presented ahead of the Club World Cup in the US, was a token of good luck for Messi and his Inter Miami team, who faced Egyptian squad Al Ahly in a goalless tournament opener at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The exchange, which went viral on social media, showcased Colapinto’s admiration for his compatriot. Messi, dressed in Inter Miami training gear, was pictured proudly holding the helmet, sparking widespread buzz among fans. This isn’t the first time the two Argentine stars have connected. Before Colapinto’s maiden Formula Two victory in 2024, Messi gifted him a signed Argentina national team training jersey. Overjoyed, Colapinto shared a video on social media, saying, “I can’t believe it. Thank you so much. As you can see, it brought me a lot of luck. It has the signature of the best in the world. I’m going to frame this shirt. I’m super happy and thankful to you, Leo.”

Colapinto’s rise to fame has been meteoric since his Formula 1 debut in 2024, turning him into a national sporting hero in Argentina. However, 2025 has been challenging for the young driver. After replacing Jack Doohan at Alpine six rounds into the season, Colapinto has yet to score a point, often overshadowed by teammate Pierre Gasly. Initially given five races to prove himself, Colapinto’s best finish so far is 13th from his first four races, putting pressure on him to deliver at the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.

Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, 2016 F1 world champion Nico Rosberg offered advice, noting the high stakes for Colapinto. “He is really driving for his future this weekend because he has had many races now, and it’s been a bit of a struggle overall,” Rosberg told Sky Sports F1. “Flavio Briatore is absolutely ruthless. He will chop you without even thinking about it. Colapinto needs to find his Williams form. Last year, he did so well. It’s possible. Let’s hope he can find it this weekend. We all wish it for him.”

Despite the challenges, Colapinto’s gesture to Messi has only strengthened his bond with fans, both in Argentina and globally. The helmet, with its touching seven-word confession, symbolizes the mutual respect between two Argentine icons, making it a moment to remember in the world of sports.
