Enzo Fernandez Drops Bombshell: ‘Concerning’ Injury Revelation Sends Shockwaves Through Stamford Bridge

In a stunning post-match confession that has Chelsea fans holding their breath, Enzo Fernández has lifted the lid on a nagging knee injury that’s been tormenting him for the past four months. The Argentine midfield maestro, fresh off one of his standout performances in Chelsea’s dominant 3-0 dismantling of Wolverhampton Wanderers, revealed he’s stepping away from international duty to prioritize his recovery—sending ripples of concern through the Blues’ faithful at Stamford Bridge.

The 2022 World Cup winner, who’s been a linchpin in Chelsea’s midfield this season, opened up to ESPN about the decision to withdraw from Argentina’s November camp. “I’ve been talking with the [national team] medical staff because I’ve been carrying a knee problem for four months,” Fernández admitted. “Together we took the decision for me to rest these two weeks, given what’s important is coming at the end of the season. I’ve had a lot of pain. These [next] two or three weeks I’ll try to recover to the maximum and be at 100% to be back training and playing with my teammates.”

Delving deeper into the issue, Fernández disclosed that he’s battling a “bone edema”—a condition that’s escalated in severity over the last month due to a grueling fixture schedule. “I’ve been carrying a bone edema that worsened in recent weeks because of the amount of games I’ve played,” he explained. “It’s very good to have talked about it [with Argentina’s medical staff] and decide together that this is what’s best for my knee.”

This isn’t the first time the injury has sidelined him from national team commitments; Fernández was forced to pull out of Argentina’s October camp for the same reason. Despite the persistent pain, the 24-year-old has been nothing short of heroic on the pitch, logging 16 appearances for Chelsea in the 2025-26 campaign and surpassing 1,000 minutes already. He even clocked 78 minutes for La Albiceleste during the October international window.

All told, Fernández has endured a staggering 51 games for club and country in 2025 alone. Adding to the strain, Chelsea’s triumphant run in the 2025 Club World Cup left little room for rest between seasons, pushing players like him to their physical limits. As Chelsea eyes silverware on multiple fronts, fans will be hoping this enforced break restores their star to full fitness—before the injury bombshell turns into a full-blown crisis.
