The Philadelphia Eagles’ starting No. 2 cornerback position was up for grabs this offseason, and Georgia Bulldogs standout Kelee Ringo has emerged as the clear frontrunner. During mandatory minicamp, Ringo turned heads with his performance, showcasing the size and speed that give him a distinct edge over his competitors. According to Eliot Shorr-Parks, if Ringo maintains this level of play through training camp, he’s poised to lock down the starting role opposite fellow second-year defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
Shorr-Parks took to X/Twitter after minicamp to praise Ringo’s standout performance: “Keele Ringo is battling for starting CB spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. If he plays in training camp like he did on Tuesday, he will be the starter in Week 1. Keele made a few plays that stood out and shows the advantage he has over other corners — size and speed.”

In his first two NFL seasons, Ringo has primarily contributed on special teams, logging 645 snaps. His opportunities at cornerback have been limited, with only five regular-season starts, four of which came during his rookie year in 2023. Despite the limited defensive reps, Ringo says the game has begun to slow down for him, allowing him to play with greater confidence and speed.
“The game is slowing down a lot more, for sure,” Ringo said. “When the game slows down, you can play a lot faster.”
This newfound clarity has also enabled Ringo to deepen his understanding of the Eagles’ defensive scheme. By studying other positions in the playbook, he’s gained a better grasp of his role and how it fits within the unit. “Diving into playbook and learning other positions that aren’t even mine just to know where my help is,” he explained. “You understand your position and what the guy next to you is doing, you can play much faster.”

Ringo’s path to a starting role isn’t without competition, particularly with the Eagles’ recent signing of veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. Now in his ninth NFL season, Jackson brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. However, Ringo has already benefited from learning alongside seasoned pros like Darius Slay, Isaiah Rodgers, Avonte Maddox, and James Bradberry over the past two years. This mentorship has clearly paid dividends, as Ringo’s minicamp performance suggests he’s ready to seize the CB2 role.
With his combination of physical tools, growing mental acuity, and guidance from veteran teammates, Kelee Ringo isn’t just competing for the starting cornerback job—he’s dominating the race from the outset. If he continues to shine in training camp, Eagles fans can expect to see him locking down the secondary in Week 1.
