IT’S CONFIRMED! Liverpool ‘formally notified’ £55m transfer is ON as Van Dijk, Salah BOTH leaving

Liverpool face a pivotal summer of transition as they prepare for life after two modern club legends, while a prime opportunity has emerged to secure the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

According to well-placed sources, RB Leipzig and Castello Lukeba have reached an agreement on the 23-year-old’s future, with the left-footed centre-back set to depart the Bundesliga club this summer. Liverpool, along with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, have been formally notified that the highly-rated defender is available — and a deal can be struck for £55m, well below his £70m release clause.

The Reds have long sought greater left-footed depth at centre-back, a need that has been masked by Van Dijk’s remarkable consistency and availability. With the Dutchman now 34, however, proactive planning for the future has become essential. Failing to adequately replace Mohamed Salah on the right wing this season has already proven costly; Liverpool will not want to repeat that mistake in defence.

A move to the Premier League appears the most likely destination for Lukeba, whose profile fits perfectly as a ball-playing, left-footed partner or eventual replacement for Van Dijk. Yet there is a potential complication: signing the Frenchman could impact Liverpool’s pursuit of another Leipzig talent, the highly-rated young winger Yan Diomande, with a possible double deal previously valued in the region of £148m now requiring careful navigation.

Van Dijk and Salah heading to Turkey?

In a development that would send shockwaves through Anfield, Turkish reports claim that Galatasaray are preparing an audacious double raid on Liverpool’s biggest stars. Mohamed Salah is already expected to depart one year early in the summer, but the latest claims suggest captain Virgil van Dijk could join him in heading to Istanbul.

Galatasaray, no strangers to blockbuster signings after landing Victor Osimhen, are said to be lining up the “mother of all double coups.” Plans reportedly include offering Hungarian international Roland Sallai (valued at around €30m/£26m) in a part-exchange deal to help reduce the overall fee. The versatile right-back/forward would become Liverpool’s third Hungarian on the books alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, should the swap materialise.

While such a move would represent a sensational coup for the Turkish giants, it would mark the end of an era at Liverpool. Salah has been one of the club’s greatest-ever players, and Van Dijk has redefined the centre-back role during his time on Merseyside. Losing both in the same window would demand a major squad rebuild under Arne Slot.

Carragher torches Konate and summer signings

Amid the uncertainty, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his criticism following the Reds’ disappointing Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Working as a pundit for CBS Sports, Carragher singled out Ibrahima Konate — who is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract — as Liverpool’s biggest issue in Paris. While defending Van Dijk’s performances this season, the former defender stated:

“People have criticised Van Dijk for his performances this season but I think it’s been harsh. He plays every game, the fella next to him has been awful all season and poor again tonight. Konate makes a mistake every game, so that’s not easy to play alongside. I still think he’s been one of Liverpool’s better players, Virgil van Dijk.”

Carragher then turned his attention to three of Liverpool’s big-money summer signings, holding them accountable for contributing to the team’s underwhelming campaign. He described the display against PSG as one in which Liverpool were fortunate to lose by only two goals, suggesting the tie may already be beyond the current squad even with the second leg at Anfield.

What next for Liverpool?

The coming weeks and months will be defining. A £55m move for Castello Lukeba offers a concrete chance to address defensive long-term planning, but it must be balanced against other targets and the potential departure of two iconic figures.

Whether Salah and Van Dijk truly depart for Galatasaray remains to be seen, but the mere speculation underscores the scale of the rebuild Liverpool may face. One thing is clear: after years of stability at the back and brilliance on the right flank, change is coming to Anfield — and the club must get its next moves right.
