Arsenal is HUNTING a 6ft 5in Spanish MONSTER — but Real Madrid’s SHADOW could DESTROY the deal

Arsenal are intensifying their search for a long-term centre-back successor to Gabriel this summer, with sporting director Andrea Berta stepping up interest in two highly rated young defenders — including a towering 6ft 5in Spanish talent described as a defensive “monster”.

Despite boasting one of the Premier League’s most formidable defensive partnerships in William Saliba and Gabriel, Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to future-proof their backline amid concerns over the Brazilian defender’s recurring injury issues in recent seasons.

According to reports, Arsenal have identified Jacobo Ramon and Real Madrid starlet Victor Valdepenas as prime targets as they look to secure a young, high-potential centre-half capable of eventually partnering Saliba on a regular basis.

Dazzled by the “Monster”

Arsenal are particularly impressed by Jacobo Ramon’s performances for Como this season. The 6ft 5in Spaniard, who came through the Real Madrid academy before joining the Italian club last summer, has caught the eye with his commanding presence and technical ability.

Scouts at the Emirates have been left dazzled by the Spain U21 international, with the Gunners now stepping up their efforts to beat competition from Chelsea for his signature.

Ramon is not the only name on Arsenal’s radar. They are also closely monitoring Victor Valdepenas, another product of Real Madrid’s famed youth system. Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the highly regarded youngster, who continues to earn rave reviews in the Spanish capital despite limited senior minutes.

A source close to the situation told CaughtOffside: “Arsenal are looking very closely at Valdepenas and Ramon this summer. Their scouts have watched them several times, and the feedback has been really positive. Arteta wants a young centre-back that can eventually become Gabriel’s replacement to partner Saliba.”

Real Madrid’s Long Shadow

However, any potential deal for either player could be complicated — or even derailed — by their former club, Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are known for retaining significant control over talents they allow to leave their academy. In Ramon’s case, Real Madrid hold a buy-back clause as well as a 50 per cent sell-on clause, giving them the power to re-sign the defender or profit handsomely from any future transfer.

Valdepenas, meanwhile, comes with a hefty €50 million (£43.5 million) price tag set by Madrid — a significant sum for a player with limited first-team experience, which is likely to give Arsenal pause for thought.

Wealth of Options — But Still Planning Ahead

Arteta already has significant depth in central defence. Saliba and Gabriel remain the undisputed first-choice pairing, while Riccardo Calafiori, Cristhian Mosquera, and the expected permanent signing of loanee Piero Hincapie provide further options.

Even so, the club’s hierarchy appear determined to add another promising young centre-back to the squad, particularly as a long-term replacement should Gabriel’s injury problems persist.

An alternative target already on Arsenal’s radar is RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba. The Frenchman’s representatives are actively pushing for a Premier League move, and Arsenal were contacted about a possible deal as recently as March.

What Happens Next?

With the summer transfer window approaching, Arsenal must now navigate a delicate balancing act: securing elite young talent while contending with the financial and contractual hurdles imposed by Real Madrid’s clever retention strategies.

Whether the Gunners can land their “monster” defender or if Madrid’s influence ultimately proves too strong remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta are leaving nothing to chance in their bid to keep Arsenal’s defensive standards at the highest level for years to come.
