BOMBSHELL: Arsenal move for Dani Olmo revealed in ‘confidential’ report

Arsenal have been caught making a concrete attempt to sign Barcelona star Dani Olmo, only for the approach to be firmly rejected, according to a “confidential” report circulating in Spain.

The revelation comes via Spanish outlet Sport, which has labelled the document as confidential and claims Mikel Arteta personally tried to capitalise on Olmo’s limited minutes at the Camp Nou. Despite the offer of regular Premier League football and the chance to join a title-chasing side, the versatile Spain international made it crystal clear: he intends to stay in Catalonia and carve out his legacy at Barcelona.

It is the latest twist in a transfer saga that has seen Olmo repeatedly turn down lucrative opportunities to leave the club he joined in 2024. The 27-year-old midfielder has prioritised footballing ambition over financial windfalls — even when those offers came with eye-watering salaries.

Not just Arsenal: Premier League heavyweights also circled

Arsenal were far from alone in their interest. Both Manchester City and Liverpool have monitored Olmo’s situation closely. City pushed hard to sign him last summer, while Liverpool revisited their interest during the winter window after missing out on him in the summer of 2024. In each case, Olmo’s stance remained unchanged.

His agent, Andy Bara, had previously been blunt about the player’s mindset. “He isn’t thinking about leaving Barca,” Bara said at the time, before adding the tantalising caveat: “You never know what the future will bring.”

Saudi riches also turned down

The pull of the Premier League was not the only temptation Olmo resisted. Brendan Rodgers, now managing Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, attempted to lure the midfielder with a monster four-year contract reportedly worth close to £35 million. Once again, Olmo said no, choosing to fight for his place under Hansi Flick rather than chase the biggest paycheque in world football.

Summer reopening possible?

Despite Olmo’s loyalty, the door may yet reopen this summer. According to transfer specialists Fichajes, Barcelona could be willing to listen to offers once the window opens, especially if the club’s financial situation demands sales. Olmo’s contract runs until 2030, meaning any club hoping to prise him away will need to table a substantial fee.

Arsenal, Manchester City and even Paris Saint-Germain are all understood to be keeping close tabs on developments. For Arteta, the attraction is obvious: Olmo’s versatility, technical quality and proven pedigree at international level would add genuine depth and creativity to an already formidable midfield.

Whether the Gunners will resurrect their interest remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that Dani Olmo has become one of Europe’s most wanted midfielders — not because he is available, but precisely because he has shown he is not for sale at any price.

For now, the Camp Nou remains his stage. But as the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal and their rivals will be watching every flicker of movement with keen interest. The “confidential” report may have been leaked, but the story is far from over.
