Arsenal are moving into pole position in the race for Ajax sensation Mika Godts, with fresh reports delivering a significant double boost to their pursuit of the dazzling 20-year-old Belgian winger.

Godts, a right-footed left winger frequently compared to Eden Hazard for his explosive style, has lit up the Eredivisie this season. His blend of blistering pace, sublime close control, and fearlessness in taking on multiple defenders has made him one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. Whether cutting inside to shoot or delivering a killer pass, the two-cap Belgium international possesses the “dynamite” quality that top clubs crave in wide areas.

Stellar Campaign Fuels Interest

Promoted to Ajax’s first team in January 2024, Godts has wasted no time establishing himself as a star. This term, he has delivered a remarkable 17 goals and 14 assists in 40 appearances, including goals in each of Ajax’s last three league matches. His standout moment came in a sensational solo goal against NAC Breda — collecting the ball in his own half, beating three defenders and the goalkeeper with pure skill — which left Arsenal and Chelsea scouts in awe.

That performance only intensified Premier League interest. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all been linked with the player, while early speculation suggested Barcelona could join the fray.

Double Boost for Arsenal

However, Arsenal have received two major pieces of positive news.

First, Barcelona are not interested in signing Godts this summer. Despite being offered the youngster, the Blaugrana prefer a more experienced left-sided option and are instead exploring a permanent deal for loanee Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for around €30m (£26m). This elimination of a major rival — one whose prestige can often sway young players — is a significant lift for the Gunners.

Second, it emerged that Godts is “very open” to joining Arsenal. With personal terms likely to be straightforward given his modest wage demands at this stage of his career, the path to an agreement on that front appears clear.

Valuation and Competition

Ajax are reportedly demanding €75m (£65m) for their prized asset, although that figure could decrease if they fail to qualify for European competition next season. Arsenal were among the first Premier League clubs to show serious interest, and they now face competition primarily from Manchester United, who have made official contact in recent weeks.

Mikel Arteta is actively seeking a new left winger to challenge or eventually replace Gabriel Martinelli, making Godts a concrete and exciting target. Arsenal may also go head-to-head with United for AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, whose price tag has reportedly dropped to £40-50m as the Portuguese star considers his future.

Godts’ agent, Niels De Jonck, previously highlighted the player’s potential alongside teammate Youri Baas as Ajax’s next major sale, noting that while financial pressure to sell has eased in Amsterdam, a significant offer would be hard to refuse.

Why Godts Fits Arsenal

Beyond the numbers, Godts’ profile aligns perfectly with Arteta’s vision: technical excellence, directness, and the ability to create moments of magic in tight spaces. His Hazard-like dribbling combined with end product (31 goal contributions in 40 games) suggests a player ready to make an immediate impact at a higher level.

With Barcelona now out of the picture and Godts openly receptive to a move to the Emirates, Arsenal hold a strong hand. Whether they pull the trigger on a £65m deal will depend on negotiations and Ajax’s European qualification hopes, but the momentum is clearly shifting in north London’s favour.

The summer transfer window is heating up — and Mika Godts could be the explosive wide-forward addition to ignite Arsenal’s next chapter.
