FREE AGENT. 28 YEARS OLD. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE football on the table. Liverpool are STEALING a Premier League starter for NOTHING.

Senesi this summer, with the Argentina international set to become one of the most sought-after free agents in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has firmly informed the Cherries that he will not be renewing his contract, which expires in June, despite multiple attempts by the club to tie him down to fresh terms. That decision leaves Senesi available on a Bosman free transfer – a rare opportunity for a proven Premier League performer entering the peak years of his career.

Senesi has transformed into one of the division’s most composed and reliable centre-halves. Uncompromising in the tackle, dominant in the air and equipped with an excellent range of passing, the three-cap Argentina international has overcome earlier injury setbacks to showcase his full quality under the Vitality Stadium lights. His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed, and now Liverpool look ready to pounce.

While Tottenham Hotspur had appeared in pole position – with reports of a verbal agreement on personal terms already in place – nothing has been signed. That has left the door open, and Liverpool have burst onto the scene with genuine intent. As revealed by Fabrizio Romano’s colleague Matteo Moretto, the Reds have made strong contact in recent days, confirming Senesi’s desire to remain in the Premier League.

Interest from Italy exists but is not concrete, while Chelsea have also been linked. Yet it is Liverpool who now hold the momentum – and crucially, four significant advantages that could allow them to steal a high-class starter for absolutely nothing.

Liverpool’s Four Ace Cards in the Senesi Race

First, there is the Richard Hughes connection. The Liverpool sporting director was instrumental in bringing Senesi to Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022 while working at the south-coast club. That established relationship with the player’s agent gives the Merseysiders a valuable head start in negotiations.

Second, the personal factor: Senesi shares a close friendship with Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. The Reds could lean on their Argentine international to help sway his compatriot’s decision – a subtle but potentially decisive influence.

Third, and perhaps most compelling, is Champions League football. Liverpool are on course to offer European football’s premier competition next season, something Senesi only sampled briefly at Feyenoord. By contrast, Tottenham (and potentially Chelsea) are realistically at least a year away from guaranteeing the same level of elite competition.

Finally, the long-term opportunity at Anfield is mouth-watering. Virgil van Dijk’s contract situation means the Dutch captain could depart at the end of next season, creating a genuine pathway for Senesi to establish himself as a first-choice centre-half at one of world football’s biggest clubs.

Of course, competition for places will remain fierce. Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal, preserving Liverpool’s current first-choice pairing, while exciting young talents Giovani Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet continue to develop. Yet for a 28-year-old of Senesi’s calibre arriving on a free transfer, the chance to fight for a starting berth at Anfield – with Champions League nights on the horizon – represents exceptional value.

Tottenham still retain hope, but with no contract signed and Liverpool’s structural advantages stacking up, the narrative has shifted dramatically in favour of the Reds.

In an era where elite centre-backs command nine-figure fees, Liverpool are on the verge of securing a Premier League-proven, international-standard defender at zero cost. For Arne Slot’s side, it would be the definition of smart, decisive business – and for Marcos Senesi, potentially the perfect platform to take his career to the very top.
