The Dallas Cowboys are shaking up their roster as they gear up for next month’s training camp in Oxnard, California, with a focus on strengthening their defensive backfield. In a series of recent moves, the team announced the signing of veteran cornerback Robert Rochell, a player dubbed the ‘iron shield’ for his resilience and experience across multiple NFL teams.
To make room for Rochell, the Cowboys released cornerback Luq Barcoo. Additionally, they bolstered their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey while parting ways with Justin Rogers on Wednesday evening.

Rochell, 27, brings a wealth of experience despite limited starting time. A fourth-round pick out of Central Arkansas in the 2021 NFL Draft, he has appeared in 48 career games. His most notable season came as a rookie with the Los Angeles Rams, where he started five games and contributed to their Super Bowl LVI victory. Since then, Rochell has had brief stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, and Kansas City Chiefs, showcasing his adaptability and persistence in the league.
The Cowboys’ secondary has faced health challenges in recent seasons, making Rochell’s addition a strategic move to add depth and competition ahead of training camp. While it remains to be seen whether Rochell will emerge as a key contributor, his signing is a low-risk, high-reward move for a Dallas team looking to fortify its defense.
As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on Rochell and the Cowboys’ revamped roster to see how these changes translate on the field.
