Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison, a former Pitt Panthers standout, will miss the opening three games of the 2025 NFL season after the league slapped him with a suspension for violating its Substances of Abuse Policy. The NFL announced the unpaid ban, which will see Addison sidelined for key matchups, including the season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 8, followed by games against the Atlanta Falcons on September 14 and the Cincinnati Bengals at home. The financial sting is significant—Addison will forfeit $264,000, and the suspension voids the full guarantee of the remaining two years and $4.6 million on his contract.

Despite the setback, Addison is permitted to participate in all training camp activities and preseason games, offering a chance to stay sharp before his regular-season return. The suspension stems from a July 13, 2024, incident at Los Angeles International Airport, where California Highway Patrol found the 23-year-old asleep behind the wheel of his white Rolls-Royce. Four days later, on July 17, Addison pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of “wet reckless”—a plea deal reducing a DUI charge to reckless driving. This legal maneuver, while sparing him harsher penalties, triggered the NFL’s disciplinary action.
This isn’t Addison’s first brush with reckless driving. On July 20, 2023, just before training camp, he was arrested for speeding at a jaw-dropping 140 mph in a Lamborghini Urus on Interstate 94 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The back-to-back incidents paint a troubling pattern for the young star, whose off-field decisions are now casting a shadow over his promising career.

Hailing from Frederick, Maryland, Addison emerged as a four-star athlete from Tuscarora High School in the Class of 2020, committing to the University of Pittsburgh. His sophomore year in 2021 was nothing short of electric, as he shattered program records with 100 receptions for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns. Those numbers earned him First Team All-ACC honors, consensus All-American status, and the prestigious Biletnikoff Award, crowning him the nation’s top wide receiver. His receiving yards and touchdowns that season trail only Pitt legend Larry Fitzgerald’s 2003 campaign in the program’s record books.
Addison’s synergy with Heisman finalist quarterback Kenny Pickett fueled a historic season for Pitt, with Pickett setting program records of his own with 4,319 passing yards and 42 touchdowns. Addison’s defining moment came in Week 12 against Virginia, where he erupted for 14 catches, 202 yards, and four touchdowns, including a 62-yard catch-and-run that clinched the ACC Coastal Title. Those stats rank among the best single-game performances in Pitt history.
Controversially, Addison transferred to USC for his final college season, where he posted solid but less spectacular numbers. Over his two years at Pitt, he amassed 160 receptions, 2,259 yards, and 21 touchdowns, cementing his legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats, with his receptions and touchdowns both ranking sixth in school history.
Selected by the Vikings with the No. 23 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Addison made an immediate impact. As a rookie, he played all 17 games, starting 14, and racked up 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning PFWA All-Rookie Team honors. In 2024, he started 15 games, hauling in 63 receptions for 875 yards, averaging 13.9 yards per catch, with nine touchdown receptions and a rushing touchdown to boot.
