Chiefs May Pull Off a Risky RB Trade to Save Their Season!

The Kansas City Chiefs, perennial Super Bowl contenders, are once again at the center of trade speculation as they aim to bolster their roster for another championship run. While the New York Jets are unlikely to part ways with their dynamic running back Breece Hall, whispers of a blockbuster deal have emerged, with the Chiefs floated as a prime destination. Could a bold move for Hall be the spark Kansas City needs to elevate their ground game and secure another ring for Patrick Mahomes?

Bleacher Report’s Mitchel Milani recently stirred the pot with a hypothetical trade that would send the rising star Hall to Kansas City in exchange for a third-round draft pick. Milani sees Hall, a per-play dynamo in his first two NFL seasons, as a perfect fit for the Chiefs’ offense. “In his first two years, [Hall] was a per-play, per-carry machine. He is also a really good pass catcher. I could kind of see—stay with me here—some Brian Westbrook in his game,” Milani enthused, drawing parallels to the former Eagles star known for his electrifying receiving skills out of the backfield.

Milani’s pitch hinges on Kansas City’s lackluster running game last season, which limped along at a meager 3.7 yards per carry. “If I’m Andy Reid, when I look at the Chiefs’ deficiencies last year, they didn’t have a running back that they could rely on in pass-catching situations. They didn’t have a running back that they could rely on to finish a game,” he argued. Hall, with his dual-threat ability, could be the missing piece to unlock the Chiefs’ offense in critical moments.

However, Kansas City has already taken steps to address their backfield woes this offseason. Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt remain the top dogs, bringing grit and experience. The Chiefs also drafted Brashard Smith, a speedster with a blazing 4.37 40-yard dash, in the seventh round and added veteran Elijah Mitchell from the San Francisco 49ers for depth. With four capable backs already in the fold, adding Hall could overcrowd an already competitive room, potentially disrupting chemistry and playing time.

On the Jets’ side, trading Hall seems like a long shot—at least for now. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Hall is a cornerstone of New York’s run-heavy vision under new head coach Aaron Glenn. Despite rumors swirling for months, Glenn has been adamant about keeping Hall as the centerpiece of a committee approach alongside Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Hall, a former Iowa State standout, has publicly bristled at the idea of sharing carries, but his path to reclaiming RB1 status in New York could silence trade talks altogether.

For Kansas City, the question is whether Hall’s addition would be worth a premium draft pick and the risk of upsetting their backfield balance. The Chiefs have reached three straight Super Bowls with a mediocre run game, leaning heavily on Mahomes’ brilliance and Reid’s play-calling genius. With an open competition among their current backs, Kansas City seems content to let the season play out before making a splash.

Still, the trade deadline looms as a potential turning point. If the Chiefs’ ground game falters again, a move for Hall could become more than just a pipe dream. His explosive playmaking could transform Kansas City’s offense, giving Mahomes the reliable weapon he needs to close out games and chase another Lombardi Trophy. For now, it’s a risky proposition—but in the high-stakes world of the NFL, bold moves often define champions.
