The nation’s most talked-about social experiment has returned to screens, bringing with it plenty of explosive moments. Married at First Sight UK has once more united complete strangers in their quest to discover true love.
Amongst this year’s participants is Ashley Dommett, a 35 year old operations director hailing from Bridgend. He’s been matched with Grace, a 31 year old midwife from Norwich, and it’s fair to say that their relationship has had quite the bumpy start.
The Welsh groom has recently shared on Instagram a picture of him back home in Bridgend, after attending numerous press events across the UK with the MAFS cast. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
The father of one said: “Back in gods little green acre for a week.”
Thus far, viewers have expressed their exasperation with the married couple, commenting: “Grace is reading into everything to find a problem with Ashley, this is painful to watch.”
The pair appeared to grow more at ease with one another in subsequent episodes. Nevertheless, they encountered another difficult period. On Sunday, October 5, the duo brought their difficulties to experts Paul C. Brunson, Melanie Schilling and Charlene Douglas, hoping for guidance.
Ashley and Grace have found it challenging to remain in sync, whether this surround intimacy in their relationship or feminist principles.
In the following episode on Monday, October 6, we saw the start of in-laws week. Ashley was introduced to his bride’s friends, whilst Grace encountered her groom’s family, which included his sister and mother.
During the episode, the father-of-one from Bridgend revealed to his family that “it’s not been easy.”
The groom elaborated: “Just picked different people with different views. Like Grace is a liberal feminist, and I’ve said right from the very beginning that I was an old-school gent.
“So there were things I was saying and doing that were triggering Grace. Grace panicked a bit because she thought I was misogynistic, but I’m a gentleman.”
Grace added: “There were certain things Ash was saying that I was hearing as being a bit judgemental of women.”
When asked how they were feeling now, Ashley said: “Yesterday we’d both kind of hit a stage, where this shouldn’t be this hard.”
Grace continued: “It feels like extreme highs and then like extreme lows. It’s very intense.”
Ashley’s sister then weighed in, speaking candidly to the couple about their turbulent relationship. She said: “Can I add something in there? That is marriage. It just is graft every day. If you haven’t got the graft to put into it, then you’re not ready for marriage.”
The dinner concluded on a positive note as Grace flaunted her new set of nails adorned with a little ‘A’ for Ashley, leaving the groom’s family feeling optimistic about the couple’s future in the experiment.
