Inter Miami Players Are Failing at One Thing – And Mascherano Says Only Messi Can Teach Them

Inter Miami secured a 4-2 victory against the Montreal Impact in their latest MLS match, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez each scoring twice. The dynamic duo’s performance powered the Herons to the win, showcasing their ability to deliver when it matters most.

Messi, in particular, continues to shine for Inter Miami. The Argentine superstar has now scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. In the MLS alone, he has eight goals and three assists in 12 matches, leading the way for his team. His relentless drive and competitive spirit remain unmatched, even at this stage of his illustrious career.

However, Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, believes the rest of the squad must learn from Messi’s example to elevate the team’s performance. Speaking to the media after the Montreal game, Mascherano praised Messi’s ability to make the extraordinary look effortless. “He makes everything look easy. He has accustomed us to that at this stage of his career,” Mascherano said. “I always try to focus not just on what he does, but on his desire to play. Because at the end of the day, you see how contagious he is, how competitive he is, and it reflects.”

Mascherano emphasized that Messi’s mindset is the key for the team to emulate. “All of us have to see ourselves in that reflection. That’s the player that we have to follow because he shows us the way to be able to compete in a very good way,” he added. “The team is united, they want to get out of this situation. Everybody is pulling in the same direction.”

Despite boasting a star-studded roster featuring Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami’s overall performance this season has been inconsistent. Currently sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference with 26 points from 15 games, the Herons are far from the top of the standings. Last season, Messi led the team to Leagues Cup glory in his first campaign with the club, and Mascherano’s side is determined to chase silverware again this year. However, their form suggests there is work to be done to meet those ambitions.

Inter Miami’s next challenge comes against the Columbus Crew on May 31. For Mascherano, the key to turning their season around lies in the squad adopting Messi’s unrelenting competitive spirit—a quality that, so far, only the Argentine legend consistently displays.
