‘It’s done’ – Liverpool deal agreed as Fabrizio Romano confirms ‘everything is done’ to sign Inter Milan target

Liverpool have sealed a significant move for the future by agreeing a deal to sign highly-rated 17-year-old centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the transfer is fully complete. The young defender, who has attracted interest from Inter Milan and several German clubs, will join the Reds in the summer of 2026 once he turns 18, adhering to post-Brexit transfer regulations.

The agreement marks Liverpool’s first notable transfer activity in the January window, albeit one deferred until July. Romano, renowned for his reliable insights, announced the news on his social media channels, stating: “Liverpool agree deal to sign 17 year old Austrian centre back Ifeanyi Ndukwe for summer 2026, here we go! Agreement in place, valid from July. Austria Wien accepted the proposal… Seen as huge talent, Ndukwe said yes to #LFC project.” In a detailed update on his YouTube channel, Romano emphasized, “We have a here we go for the future of Liverpool. And it’s about Ndukwe, this talented centre-back, coming from Austria-Wien, 17-year-old, will turn 18 very soon, and in the summer, 2026, Ndukwe will become new centre-back for Liverpool. It’s done. It’s a here we go.”

He further elaborated: “The player has already agreed the terms. I can tell you that last summer transfer window, Italian clubs and German clubs wanted to sign the boy, but Ndukwe decided to wait, and now Liverpool decide to sign him. The deal is done now, for the summer. Everything is done, everything is agreed. The boy will start pre-season with Liverpool in the summer, and a very interesting one, very tall, but also fast, and so considered as an interesting talent by Liverpool.”

Ndukwe, standing at an imposing 6ft 5in, has been described as a “huge talent” with a blend of height, speed, and technical ability that has caught the eye of top European clubs. Inter Milan, in particular, had been strongly linked, with reports indicating they sent scouts to watch him and even tabled an offer. However, the teenager opted to remain with Austria Vienna through the summer before committing to Liverpool’s project under head coach Arne Slot.

Initial reports from Austrian media, including Kurier, suggested a multi-million euro deal, with figures around an initial €3 million (£2.6 million, $3.5 million). While The Athletic initially downplayed the immediacy of the transfer, confirming only that talks were ongoing, Romano’s stamp of approval has solidified the move as complete.

This signing comes at a pivotal time for Liverpool, who are planning long-term for their centre-back position. Current options include Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires this summer and has yet to be renewed amid links to Real Madrid (though those have cooled). Captain Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both contracted until 2027, leaving some uncertainty, while young prospect Giovanni Leoni is sidelined with an ACL injury. The Reds have also been linked with established names like Marc Guehi and Nathan Collins, but Ndukwe represents a forward-thinking investment in youth.

Under Arne Slot’s management, Liverpool continue to build a squad blending experience with emerging talent. Ndukwe’s arrival in pre-season could see him integrated into the first-team setup, potentially addressing future defensive needs as the club aims to maintain its competitive edge in the Premier League and beyond.

With everything now agreed, as per Romano, Liverpool fans can look forward to welcoming a promising new defender to Anfield in the coming months.
