Karen Huger Officially Walks Free After Serving Just Half Her Sentence — and the ‘RHOP’ Cameras Were Waiting

Karen Huger, the iconic “Grande Dame” of The Real Housewives of Potomac, is a free woman once again. The 62-year-old reality star was spotted leaving the Montgomery County Detention Center on September 2, 2025, after serving just six months of a two-year sentence, with one year suspended, for a DUI conviction. A spokesperson for the facility confirmed to Page Six, “She has been released,” marking the end of a tumultuous chapter for the beloved RHOP star.

Huger’s legal troubles began in 2024 when she crashed her Maserati, leading to her arrest and a guilty verdict in December of that year. The incident, compounded by four prior driving offenses, drew widespread attention after shocking bodycam footage surfaced. In the video, a visibly impaired Huger slurred her words, referred to herself as Thomas Jefferson’s “concubine,” and leaned into her self-proclaimed “Grande Dame” persona, leaving fans stunned.

Reflecting on the footage during a RHOP season nine episode in March 2025, Huger opened up to her husband, Ray Huger, 79, about the surreal experience. “I’m sitting there in the courtroom, like, I have to finally watch it, because I kept saying, ‘Well, surely they made a mistake, right, because everything’s not connecting for me,’” she shared. “And I watched, and I’m telling you, I didn’t recognize that woman. I didn’t know her.”

The news of Huger’s release sparked a flurry of activity on social media. A photo circulating on X captured the first glimpse of the reality star post-incarceration, while news reporter Matthew Torres shared an image of a production crew setting up outside the detention center, presumably to film Huger’s exit for RHOP season 10. Another video showed Huger in the back of an SUV, hinting that the cameras were indeed rolling to capture every moment of her return to the spotlight.

Huger’s time behind bars didn’t dim her star power, according to her co-star Gizelle Bryant, 54, who spoke about the ordeal on an April episode of Watch What Happens Live. “I was shook by the idea that she was behind bars,” Bryant admitted, before adding, “I feel very good after learning she was safe.” She revealed she’d been in touch with someone close to Huger, who confirmed that the “Grande Dame” was thriving. “They love her up in where she is right now,” Bryant said. “They absolutely love her. They are loving the Grande Dame! And you know she’s running that thing.”
