LIVERPOOL JUST DROPPED A NUKE ON THE TRANSFER MARKET. Liverpool want ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ as FSG hold ‘talks’ with €50m star

Liverpool are making significant waves in the summer transfer window, simultaneously preparing for a potential departure of their star goalkeeper while targeting high-profile reinforcements in key positions.

With Alisson Becker firmly established as one of the world’s top goalkeepers, his future at Anfield has become a major talking point. Although Liverpool triggered the option to extend his contract, there is a distinct possibility that the Brazilian could depart for Juventus this summer. TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported on April 26 that Alisson is ‘intrigued’ by the prospect of a move to the Bianconeri, who have already offered him a two-year deal with the option to extend by a further 12 months. Bailey followed up on April 28 noting that Liverpool are actively exploring potential replacements, with Manchester City’s James Trafford among those under consideration.

Sources indicate that the Reds are not entirely convinced Giorgi Mamardashvili could immediately step up as the undisputed number one should Alisson leave. This assessment has been echoed by TuttoJuve, which also reports on the strong possibility of Alisson heading to Juventus.

Liverpool eye Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez

In response, Liverpool have turned their attention to proven Premier League talent. TuttoJuve has revealed that the Reds are keeping a close eye on Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, while also monitoring Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier. The Italian outlet noted: “But Liverpool is also keeping a close eye on the Premier League. Among the players being monitored is Emiliano Martinez, a World Cup winner with Argentina and Aston Villa’s leader.”

Martinez, 33, remains one of Villa’s most important players and a key figure in Unai Emery’s side. In September 2025, Emery described him as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’. A 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, Martinez would bring vast experience and leadership to Anfield if a deal materialises.

Liverpool in ‘talks’ to sign Ederson

Beyond the goalkeeping situation, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are also advancing plans in midfield. Graeme Bailey has reported that Liverpool are among the clubs pursuing Atalanta’s defensive midfielder Ederson this summer. Atalanta are demanding €50million (£43.2m, $59m) for the Brazil international.

Atletico Madrid had shown interest but were unwilling to meet the valuation and are now close to signing Wolves’ Joao Gomes. This development has opened the door for Liverpool and others. Sources have confirmed that Ederson’s agents have “held talks within the last 10 days” with Liverpool, as well as Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Liverpool face PSG competition for Anthony Gordon

Liverpool’s summer ambitions do not stop there. The club are also tracking Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon ahead of a potential 2026 move, but they now face competition from Paris Saint-Germain. Sources told Graeme Bailey that PSG — who will contest the Champions League final against Arsenal this season — are keen on the England international, alongside interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Gordon is expected to leave Newcastle at the end of the season and would be open to a move abroad.

As the transfer window heats up, Liverpool under Arne Slot are positioning themselves for a squad refresh that could reshape their squad dynamics. Whether it’s securing a successor to Alisson or landing a €50m midfield target like Ederson, FSG appear prepared to make bold statements in the market. Fans will be watching closely to see which of these intriguing links turn into concrete deals.
