Love Island Exes Go to War: Lohan Files Legal Action, Whitney Vows She Won’t Back Down

The fallout between Love Island 2023 stars Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki has erupted into a bitter public feud, with explosive accusations, leaked messages, and a looming High Court battle. What began as a romance that captivated viewers has spiraled into a war of words, with allegations of racial slurs and defamation at the center of the storm.

Whitney, 27, and Lochan, 27, were fan favorites on Love Island’s 2023 series, finishing as runners-up to Sammy Root and Jess Harding. Their chemistry in the villa seemed unbreakable, but four months after their split, the former couple is locked in a heated dispute that has spilled onto social media and into the legal arena.

The conflict ignited when Whitney accused Lochan of using racially charged language during their relationship. She claimed he referred to her skin as “dirty” and called her “Sophia,” a reference to a Black character in The Color Purple who is enslaved and forced to serve a white family. In a pointed Instagram post, Whitney wrote over a fan’s comment, “calling me Sophia (a slave) but I guess that was a joke too. why can’t you tell the world how funny you are now? @lochan_nowacki.”

Lochan hit back, taking to Instagram to categorically deny Whitney’s allegations. “I never called Whitney ‘Sophia,’ and nothing I said to her ever related to slavery or racial inferiority,” he stated firmly. He shared private messages between himself and Whitney, where he demanded she remove posts he believed falsely painted him as racist. In one message, Whitney appeared to acknowledge his intentions weren’t malicious, writing, “It’s fine I know you didn’t do it with any bad intentions but just think sometimes how things can be perceived x.”

Lochan, now represented by the same legal team that handled David Williams’ case against Britain’s Got Talent, announced he is suing Whitney in the High Court for defamation and malicious falsehood. He’s seeking “substantial damages” to address what he calls “serious reputational damage” to himself and his family. “Taking this step was not about taking anything from Whitney,” Lochan said. “It’s about clearing the harm caused. I have no desire to prolong this situation—I want to close this down and for us both to move forward separately.”

Whitney, undeterred, refused to stay silent. She responded with a screenshot of an alleged message from Lochan to a mutual acquaintance, in which he appeared to beg for forgiveness: “Please speak to whit she is fully done and I feel awful but I never said it thinking her skin is dirty I feel sick I crossed line with joke but she said she can’t look at me the same… I f**ked up but I can barely her or your family thinking I’m racists.” Whitney captioned the post, “@lochan_nowacki if you can apologise privately, apologise publicly.”

Whitney also accused Lochan’s mother, Kulminder, of making racially insensitive remarks, claiming she joked, “Where’s Whit gone?” when the lights went out, followed by, “Whit, smile.” These comments, Whitney alleges, were part of a broader pattern of insensitivity. She further claimed Lochan’s friends used the N-word, accusing him of “condoning it” by maintaining those friendships. “I was like, why are you hanging around with people who obviously have that word in their vocabulary, and I’m obviously a Black woman?” she said.

Whitney didn’t hold back in detailing the unraveling of their romance. She described their post-villa relationship as “up and down” and accused Lochan of being a “culture vulture” who exploited Black culture to appeal to his predominantly Black audience while simultaneously criticizing her. “He told me I was too ghetto, I was too loud,” she claimed. “The same culture he stripped me of, he’s constantly trying to tap into.”

A source close to Lochan revealed that Whitney’s accusations against his mother were the “final straw.” “She accused his mum of racism and defamed her to millions of people,” the source said. “The family thinks that’s a step too far. Attempts were made behind the scenes to resolve this, but she refuses to be reasonable, likely because it affects her online platform.”

As the dispute escalates, both sides are digging in. Whitney’s spokesperson stated last week, “Whitney has instructed her own legal team and is very confident in her position. If any claim is issued by Mr. Nowacki, it will be vigorously defended.” Meanwhile, Lochan’s legal team is drafting particulars of claim for the High Court, signaling that this feud is far from over.

The public nature of the conflict highlights the challenges of navigating personal disputes in the age of social media. Whitney’s refusal to retract her statements—“I will never be bullied / intimidated into silence”—clashes with Lochan’s plea to move forward. As fans take sides online, the once-beloved Love Island couple’s drama continues to unfold, with no resolution in sight.

What was once a fairy-tale romance has become a cautionary tale of love, accusations, and the high stakes of public perception. As Whitney and Lochan prepare for their day in court, the world watches to see if this bitter row can ever be laid to rest.
