Mascherano reveals shocking truth: The real reason Di Maria refused to join Messi in Miami is not what everyone expected!

Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, has put an end to swirling rumors about a potential blockbuster signing of Angel Di Maria to the MLS side, where his close friend Lionel Messi, alongside Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, currently dazzle fans. Despite the strong Argentine contingent at the club and the deep bond between Di Maria and Messi, the 37-year-old winger has chosen a different path—one that leads back to his roots.

“I have a friendship with him, and I was clear that there was no chance he would come to Miami,” Mascherano revealed. “He wanted to go home. It was a decision he had already made a long time ago.”

Di Maria, affectionately known as “Fideo,” has opted to return to Rosario Central, the club where he launched his illustrious career before taking Europe by storm. For over 15 years, he showcased his talents at elite clubs like Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG, and Juventus, while also playing a pivotal role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph. Now, at 37, Di Maria is set to fulfill his lifelong dream of retiring at the club where it all began.

“When you spend many years away from home, it’s normal to want to be back with your family,” Mascherano explained. “And in his case, he had the possibility of returning to his club, where it all started. I’m very happy for him, because I know it was his wish.”

Mascherano emphasized that Di Maria’s decision was not made in isolation but was a collective choice involving his family. “Footballers often leave on their own, but come back with their families. And decisions are already starting to be made in that environment,” he noted.

While fans had hoped to see Di Maria reunite with Messi on the pitch in Miami, the Argentine star’s heart was set on closing his career at Rosario Central. “I know that Angel was very excited to finish his career at Central. I’m very happy for him,” Mascherano concluded, dispelling any lingering hopes of a Miami move and highlighting Di Maria’s deep connection to his homeland.
