Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League with a four-point lead over Manchester City, and Mikel Arteta has no intention of easing off. After a frustrating 2-2 draw against Sunderland just before the international break – a game in which the league’s meanest defence inexplicably conceded twice – the Spanish manager is desperate to bolster his attacking options and turn his side into a genuine title-winning machine.
According to reports from Germany, Arsenal have identified Eintracht Frankfurt’s 20-year-old forward/winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya as their top target for the upcoming transfer window. The French star carries a mammoth £70 million price tag (around €80m), and Frankfurt have no plans to sell on the cheap after rejecting a £61m offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer.

Bahoya joined Frankfurt from Angers at the start of 2024 and quickly made his mark with blistering pace (he once hit 37.16 km/h – the fastest recorded speed in the Bundesliga) and sharp dribbling and finishing. Last season he made 33 appearances across all competitions, contributing seven goals and assists despite mostly coming off the bench. This campaign started brightly with a brace against Werder Bremen, but limited minutes have left him frustrated – giving Arsenal hope they can lure him to the Emirates.
The most eye-catching part? Bahoya himself is utterly convinced he is worth every single pound of that £70m valuation.
In a recent interview, when asked about the huge fee Frankfurt have placed on his head, the young Frenchman replied with total confidence: “Pressure? For me? No. I know I’m worth every penny. Big clubs pay that money because they see real value. Just give me the pitch, let me show what I can do, and then you tell me if I was worth it.”
That bold statement has only made Arteta more determined. Arsenal need a “new hunter” – a young, explosive wide forward who can also play through the middle when required – to add firepower alongside the current squad. With Gabriel Magalhães now struggling with an injury picked up on international duty and the defence looking unusually shaky against Sunderland, Arteta knows that being the best defensive side in the league won’t be enough to lift the title.
This weekend’s North London Derby against Tottenham at the Emirates will be the first major test after the international break. Spurs would love nothing more than to derail Arsenal’s title charge, but if the Gunners come through it and maintain their lead at the top, the Bahoya deal could be accelerated as early as January 2026.
Mikel Arteta is ready to splash the cash. Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is ready to prove he is worth every penny. And Arsenal fans are already dreaming of a new goalscoring sensation who could finally end their 21-year wait for a Premier League crown.
