Shocking details emerge as ex-Cowboys star’s lawyer breaks silence on arrest scandal

Former Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested on June 7, 2025, by the Covington Police Department in Kentucky, facing charges of assaulting a police officer, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct. The arrest marks another chapter in Jones’ history of legal troubles, prompting a strong response from his attorney, Pete Schaefer, who condemned the incident as an example of “overzealous policing.”

Jones was released on a $10,000 bond shortly after the arrest. In a statement shared via Pro Football Talk, Schaefer defended his client, asserting that Jones was unfairly targeted for exercising his constitutional rights. “The recent arrest of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones in Covington, Kentucky, is yet another example of overzealous policing and the systemic issues that plague our justice system,” Schaefer stated. He claimed that Jones was detained simply for asking why he was being held, a question he believes every citizen should be free to ask without fear of retaliation.

According to Schaefer, the charges against Jones shifted during the incident, starting with assault, moving to public intoxication, and ultimately settling on disorderly conduct. He argued that this pattern of escalating and inconsistent charges reflects an abuse of authority and a disregard for constitutional protections. “This demonstrates a troubling trend of police officers prioritizing their own discretion over constitutional rights,” Schaefer said.

Schaefer also called for Jones to be treated fairly in the court of public opinion, emphasizing the principle of “innocent until proven guilty.” He accused the media of sensationalizing Jones’ arrests for attention, often mischaracterizing minor incidents to portray him as a villain. “Adam’s past is being weaponized against him in the court of public opinion, while the officers involved face no scrutiny for their conduct,” Schaefer said. “Enough is enough… Adam deserves fairness, not another headline designed to paint him as a villain for clicks.”

The attorney demanded a transparent review of the arrest and urged authorities to uphold Jones’ right to due process. “No one should be treated as guilty before they’ve even had their day in court,” he added.

This arrest is the latest in a series of legal incidents for Jones. In November 2024, he was arrested following the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. On September 11, 2024, he faced charges as an unruly passenger at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Since 2021, Jones has been arrested four times, and between 2005 and 2018, he faced 10 arrests. Notably, during his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, Jones was linked to a shooting outside an Atlanta strip club, which led to his release from the team.

As the case unfolds, Schaefer’s statement highlights ongoing concerns about policing practices and media portrayals, positioning Jones’ arrest as part of a broader conversation about fairness and accountability in the justice system.
