Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas is radiating confidence about the future of Lionel Messi and his fellow Barcelona legends at the MLS club, with plans that could shake up the soccer world. As Messi approaches free agency at the end of 2025, reports indicate the iconic forward is eager to stay in Miami, and Mas is determined to make that a reality.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Mas shared his ambitious vision, stating, “My wish, my dream, would be for the No. 10 to inaugurate our new stadium in March [2026].” He emphasized that the decision lies with Messi, but the club has gone all out to ensure the soccer legend feels at home. “We’ve done everything possible for Leo to feel comfortable,” Mas said. “He’s a competitive animal who wants to win, and I hope we can raise many trophies together here at Inter Miami in the coming years.”

Messi, Inter Miami’s record goalscorer, is not the only star in Mas’s sights. The billionaire co-owner is also focused on securing contract extensions for Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets, two other former Barcelona stalwarts. “In terms of Suárez and Busquets, it’s up to them if they stay,” Mas explained. “For Suárez, it’s a physical question, not emotional. If his body permits it, we’d love for him to do one more year or many more.” Regarding Busquets, Mas added, “We haven’t had those conversations yet, but he’s been an extraordinary leader and is more than welcome at this club.”
Mas’s ambitions don’t stop at retaining his current stars. He has his eyes set on building “the best team in the hemisphere” by adding another “star player” to the roster. “There is no tool that the league provides us that we haven’t used to better this roster,” Mas declared. “We’re signing young players, finding other cracks, and for next year, we’ll find another star player because we have the space in the roster.”
With Inter Miami leveraging every opportunity to strengthen their squad, Mas remains patient yet optimistic about Messi’s future. “There is no rush,” he noted. “We don’t need to decide today or tomorrow, but soon we will know Messi’s decision, and hopefully, we remain together for many more years.” As the club prepares to move into its new stadium in 2026, the prospect of Messi, Suárez, Busquets, and a new star leading the charge could indeed set the internet ablaze.
