Veteran entertainer Paul Elliott, beloved by generations as one half of the iconic Chuckle Brothers, has opened up about his heartbreaking rejection from the star-studded Celebrity Traitors, set to air this week. The 77-year-old comedy legend, speaking exclusively to The Sun at Tulley’s Shocktober Fest, revealed he desperately wanted to join the gripping psychological game show but was snubbed by producers for a surprising reason.
The highly anticipated celebrity spin-off of The Traitors, hosted by the charismatic Claudia Winkleman, will see a dazzling lineup of stars—including Stephen Fry, Charlotte Church, Olympian Tom Daley, broadcaster Clare Balding, and rugby star Joe Marler—compete in a Scottish castle for a chance to win up to £100,000 for charity. In the game, contestants must work together to unmask the “traitors” among them, with the “faithfuls” splitting the prize money if successful. However, if a traitor remains undetected until the end, they claim the entire pot.

Paul, a lifelong fan of the show, confessed, “I love The Traitors. I watch it all the time, I wanted to be in.” But his dreams were dashed when producers turned him down, citing concerns about his ability to handle the show’s physical challenges. “They said, ‘You probably wouldn’t be able to do all the physical bits,’” Paul shared, revealing the blunt reasoning behind the rejection.
Undeterred, the comedy icon remains hopeful for a future shot at the castle. “Next year. Hopefully,” he said with characteristic optimism. When asked whether he’d prefer to play as a cunning traitor or a loyal faithful, Paul didn’t hesitate: “I’d love to be a traitor, scheming.” His mischievous grin hinted at the chaos he could bring to the game.
Paul, alongside his late brother Barry, became a household name through their beloved children’s show ChuckleVision, which entertained audiences for 22 years from 1987 to 2009. The duo’s comedy career began decades earlier, skyrocketing after a 1967 appearance on the talent show Opportunity Knocks. They went on to host the children’s game show To Me, To You from 1996 to 1998, inspired by their iconic catchphrase, and appeared in numerous variety shows that cemented their status as British entertainment royalty.
The loss of Barry, who passed away from bone cancer in 2018 at age 73, was a devastating blow for Paul. “I’ve not just lost my brother, I’ve lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend,” he said at the time. Despite personal challenges, including a battle with coronavirus in 2020, Paul has shown remarkable resilience. After making a full recovery, he’s taken on new adventures, including stints on Celebrity MasterChef and The Real Marigold Hotel. Last year, he was even in talks for Celebrity Big Brother, proving his enduring appeal.
As Celebrity Traitors prepares to captivate audiences with its high-stakes drama, Paul’s exclusion has only fueled his determination to join the game. With his quick wit, scheming ambitions, and decades of entertaining expertise, it’s hard to imagine him not stealing the show. Here’s hoping the castle doors open for Paul Elliott in 2026—because this Chuckle Brother is ready to stir up some traitorous fun!
