Unbelievable twist: Rookie Kelee Ringo from Georgia easily snatches the Eagles’ No. 2 cornerback spot!

In a stunning turn of events, Philadelphia Eagles’ second-year cornerback Kelee Ringo, a former Georgia Bulldogs star, has emerged as the frontrunner to claim the team’s coveted No. 2 cornerback position this offseason. According to reports from mandatory minicamp, Ringo’s standout performances have positioned him as the clear favorite to start opposite fellow young defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in Week 1.

Eliot Shorr-Parks, a prominent Eagles reporter, took to X to praise Ringo’s showing at minicamp, noting that the young cornerback’s unique blend of size and speed gives him a distinct edge over his competitors. “Keele Ringo is battling for starting CB spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. If he plays in training camp like he did on Tuesday, he will be the starter in Week 1. Keele made a few plays that stood out and shows the advantage he has over other corners — size and speed,” Shorr-Parks wrote.

Ringo, who has spent much of his first two NFL seasons contributing on special teams with 645 snaps, has seen limited action at cornerback, starting just five regular-season games, four of which came during his rookie year in 2023. However, the 23-year-old says the game has started to “slow down” for him, allowing him to play with greater confidence and speed. “The game is slowing down a lot more, for sure,” Ringo said. “When the game slows down, you can play a lot faster.”

This newfound clarity has also enabled Ringo to deepen his understanding of the Eagles’ defensive scheme. By studying the playbook and learning the responsibilities of other positions, he’s gained a better grasp of where his help is on the field. “Diving into playbook and learning other positions that aren’t even mine just to know where my help is,” he explained. “You understand your position and what the guy next to you is doing, you can play much faster.”

Despite his rapid rise, Ringo faces stiff competition, particularly from veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who joined the Eagles this offseason. Jackson, now in his ninth NFL season, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. However, Ringo is no stranger to learning from seasoned professionals. Over the past two years, he’s absorbed knowledge from veteran teammates like Darius Slay, Isaiah Rodgers, Avonte Maddox, and James Bradberry, which has clearly paid dividends.

If Ringo maintains his momentum through training camp, he could lock down the No. 2 cornerback role, marking a significant step forward in his young career. With his combination of athleticism, growing football IQ, and mentorship from some of the league’s best, Kelee Ringo is on the verge of an unbelievable breakout season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
