Vikings quietly plot to steal star rookie from Bengals in shocking trade!

The Minnesota Vikings are poised to make waves in the NFL as they eye a bold move to bolster their roster for the 2025 season. With head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at the helm, the Vikings are reportedly considering a blockbuster trade to pry rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart away from the Cincinnati Bengals, a team grappling with a contract dispute with their first-round pick.

A Contract Standoff in Cincinnati

Selected 17th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Shemar Stewart was expected to be a cornerstone for the Bengals’ defensive line. However, a contentious contract standoff has created tension between the 6-foot-5, 267-pound defender and the team. Stewart’s combination of size, athleticism, and raw potential made him a coveted prospect, but his lack of polished production at the NFL Combine raised questions about his immediate impact. If Cincinnati cannot resolve this issue, they may be forced to explore trade options, opening the door for opportunistic teams like the Vikings.

The Vikings’ Trade Proposal

According to Fantasy Life’s Thor Nystrom, a tantalizing trade proposal has surfaced on X, outlining a potential deal that would send Stewart to Minnesota. The proposed trade package is as follows:

Vikings receive: DE Shemar Stewart

Bengals receive: OT Walter Rouse, DL Levi Drake Rodriguez, 2026 2nd-round pick, 2027 4th-round pick

This package is a compelling offer. Walter Rouse, an offensive tackle, and Levi Drake Rodriguez, a defensive lineman, are young players with upside but are not yet critical pieces for the Vikings. Pairing them with a second-round pick in 2026 and a fourth-rounder in 2027 creates a balanced return for Cincinnati, allowing them to recoup draft capital and address other roster needs.

Why the Vikings Want Stewart

While edge rusher isn’t a glaring weakness for Minnesota, Stewart’s potential is too enticing to ignore. The Vikings already boast a talented group of pass rushers, including Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard, and rising star Dallas Turner. Adding Stewart would give defensive coordinator Brian Flores another high-upside player to develop within his aggressive, blitz-heavy scheme.

Stewart’s athletic testing at the Combine showcased his explosiveness and agility, though his production metrics didn’t scream “first-round lock.” However, Minnesota’s coaching staff could view him as a moldable talent who can learn behind their established veterans. If harnessed correctly, Stewart could evolve into a dominant force, complementing the Vikings’ already formidable defense.

The Risk and Reward

The trade proposal isn’t without risk for Minnesota. Parting with a second-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and two promising players is a significant investment for a rookie who hasn’t yet proven himself at the NFL level. The Vikings must weigh whether Stewart’s long-term potential justifies the cost, especially when their current edge-rushing unit is performing well.

On the flip side, the reward could be substantial. A young, cost-controlled defender with Stewart’s physical tools could become a cornerstone of Minnesota’s defense for years to come. With Flores’ track record of maximizing defensive talent, the Vikings might see this as a calculated gamble worth taking.

Who Says No?

The critical question is whether both teams would agree to the deal. For Cincinnati, the package offers immediate help with Rouse and Rodriguez, plus valuable draft picks to rebuild their roster. However, trading away a first-round talent like Stewart so soon could be a tough pill to swallow. For Minnesota, the trade hinges on their confidence in Stewart’s ability to develop into a star. If they believe in his upside, they might pull the trigger without hesitation.

The Bigger Picture

Under Kevin O’Connell’s leadership, the Vikings have shown a willingness to make aggressive moves to elevate their roster. Acquiring Stewart would signal their intent to compete at the highest level in 2025 and beyond. While the current edge-rushing group is capable, adding a player of Stewart’s caliber could transform Minnesota’s defense into one of the NFL’s elite units.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on the Vikings to see if they can execute this audacious trade. If they succeed, they could steal a star rookie from Cincinnati and reshape their defensive future. If not, O’Connell and company will trust their existing talent to carry them forward. Either way, Minnesota’s front office is quietly plotting a move that could send shockwaves through the NFL.
