During the live show the celebrities and their pro partners were full of nerves for the competitions first ever Instant Dance.

Overseen by hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the challenge saw each remaining couple given a mystery dance style at random in envelopes from ones they have learnt in the competition so far.

They were then played their accompanying music and – after a frantic dash through wardrobe to select and change into their costumes – each couple had just 10 seconds on the countdown clock to decide exactly how they were going to dance it.

After all six couples had danced for 40 seconds, the Strictly judges ranked them and awarded their extra marks accordingly.

The 15 minute challenge sent fans into an absolute meltdown and begging for it’s return, taking to X one user said: “We need the joyful chaos of the Instant Dance challenge again!”

“I ABSOLUTELY loved that instant dance challenge! What a chaotic, but amazing 15 minutes. Absolutely outstanding,” added another.

A third penned: “That Instant Dance challenge was chaos. Improv is either something you’re great at or you’re not.”

“The Instant Dance Challenge showed why Strictly still has so much life in it, so much more to give. Innovation like this is the way forward, but make no mistake: Strictly is still sparkling,” a fourth added.

Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe were the first to hit the stage after it was revealed that their mystery dance was none other than the rumba.

As the first ones to go they put on an incredible controlled performance gaining a standing ovation from the studio’s audience.

Chaos ensued as soon as George Clarke and Alexis Warr were given their dance of the tango to Prince’s When Doves Cry – sadly for George he didn’t know the iconic track later admitting he was “scared” backstage.

The Youtuber then raced across the dancefloor having only seconds to choose an outfit for the sultry dance – he frantically opted for a huge fluffy red coat.

The celebs getting dressed was even more chaotic as the cameras followed host Claudia backstage where they were all seen frantically putting on their quick pic costumes before heading back out for the challenge.

As George’s dance began he unbuttoned his huge coat before throwing it to the side, him and Alexis had a few stumbles as they tried to match each other’s moves but threw in an incredible lift at the end.

Lewis Cope and Katya Jones were given a jive and were shown hectically  running backstage to get dressed for their dance.

The pair left the judges shocked as they put on a top tier performance which saw Lewis jump through Katya’s legs in a risque move that certainly paid off.

Eastenders star Balvinder Sopal smashed her challenge taking on the notoriously difficult Paso Doble she managed to get her outfit choice on point opting for a ‘bull-fighter’ style ensemble.

Alongside pro partner Julian Caillon she performed an incredible routine with dramatic steps and lots of head flicks even sneaking in an impressive drop move.

The judges were all stood crowded around their panel intensely analysing each routine for ranking.

Football ace Karen Carney was second to last to dance it off, both her and Carlos Gu Cha Cha – ing to the track Beggin.

Opting for all golden outfits Karen’s dance was one of the more frantic routines of the night missing out on various steps and she was seemingly left confused by Carlos’s instructions.

Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin were given a Samba to Shakira’s Whenever Wherever and started off well.

Their sexy Samba ended in a daring split from Amber which had her seemingly a bit dazed after pulling off the unexpected move.

A maximum of six marks were awarded to the couple whose Instant Dance performance impressed the judges the most, right down to one point for the couple whose dance impressed them the least.

The celebs were left absolutely exhausted and panting as it was revealed that Karen came in sixth place followed by George, Alex, Amber and Balvinder.

But it was Lewis who bagged the top spot securing six points from the judges.
