Bills’ Controversial Reunion with Former Star Now OFFICIAL – Despite Miserable 20-Catch, 239-Yard Season That Got Him Axed by Jacksonville!

The Buffalo Bills are reportedly set to reunite with a familiar face, as free-agent wide receiver Gabe Davis is scheduled to visit the team on Wednesday, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Gerry Dulac. The move comes as the Bills look to bolster their wide receiver corps with a veteran presence ahead of the upcoming season, but the decision is raising eyebrows given Davis’ lackluster performance in 2024.

Davis, who previously spent four seasons with the Bills, is no stranger to quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo offensive system. However, his recent stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars was nothing short of disastrous. After signing a three-year, $39 million contract with Jacksonville in 2024, Davis managed just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games before being released in May. His underwhelming output was compounded by a lingering injury that hampered his performance.

“I tore my meniscus and ACL in Week 17 of 2023 in Buffalo,” Davis explained. “Then I signed with Jacksonville and [was] never really fully recovered. So I was only running like Week 10 and tore a seam, felt pain in my knee, and tried to walk off to the sideline.”

The injury, a torn meniscus that sidelined him for seven games in 2024, was a significant setback. Davis’ visit to Buffalo marks his second meeting with an NFL team this week, as he is also scheduled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday. According to Dulac, the Steelers’ previous encounter with Davis was marred by health concerns, and this week’s visit includes a medical evaluation to assess his recovery.

For the Bills, bringing back Davis could be a low-risk, high-reward move. His familiarity with Josh Allen and the team’s playbook makes him an intriguing option, especially as Buffalo grapples with salary cap constraints. Davis’ market value has likely taken a hit after his disappointing season, making him an affordable addition for a team in need of depth at wide receiver.

The Bills had previously signed veteran wideout Elijah Moore earlier this offseason, hoping he could provide a reliable option behind starters Joshua Palmer, Khalil Shakir, and Keon Coleman. However, Moore’s lackluster performance during training camp and the preseason has cast doubt on his roster spot, prompting Buffalo to explore other options like Davis.

While Davis’ 2024 season was a far cry from his productive years in Buffalo—where he recorded 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns over four seasons—his potential return could spark a resurgence. If he’s fully recovered from his knee injury, Davis could provide the Bills with a proven playmaker at a bargain price. However, the move isn’t without risk, as his recent struggles and injury history raise questions about whether he can return to his former form.

As the Bills and Steelers vie for his services, all eyes will be on Davis’ health and how he fits into Buffalo’s plans. For a team looking to make a deep playoff run, the decision to bring back a former star could either be a masterstroke or a costly misstep.
