HERE WE GO! Liverpool STORMS the market with SHOCK €20m bid – but Arsenal REFUSE to back down!

In a stunning twist that’s set the football world ablaze, Liverpool have launched a bold €20 million bid for Olympiacos sensation Konstantinos Tzolakis, the 23-year-old Greek goalkeeper who’s been turning heads across Europe. But hold onto your seats – Arsenal aren’t about to let their Premier League rivals snatch this gem without a fight. The Gunners are ready to go toe-to-toe, turning what could have been a straightforward signing into an all-out transfer war!

Liverpool’s transfer strategy has been nothing short of meticulous this season, especially as they gear up for a major squad overhaul in the upcoming summer window. With the January window already behind us here in February 2026, the Reds are wasting no time in planning ahead. Their recent deadline-day acquisition of young talent Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes – a deal set to activate in the summer – was just the appetizer. Now, they’re eyeing a main course that could reshape their goalkeeping department.

Enter Konstantinos Tzolakis, the 6ft 4in colossus who’s become a household name in Greek football. Born on November 8, 2002, in Chania, Crete, Tzolakis joined Olympiacos’ youth ranks in 2018 after starting out at Platanias. His rise has been meteoric: debuting for the senior team in 2019 at just 16, he played a starring role in the 2020 Greek Cup final, making key saves to clinch a 1-0 win over AEK Athens. Since then, he’s racked up an impressive 113 appearances for Olympiacos, including 76 in the Super League Greece, 10 in the Greek Cup, and 29 in European competitions.

Tzolakis’s heroics in the 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League were the stuff of legends. He saved three penalties in a dramatic shootout against Fenerbahçe, propelling Olympiacos to the semi-finals, and then helped secure the trophy with a 1-0 extra-time victory over Fiorentina in Athens. His trophy cabinet is already bulging: Super League titles in 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22, and 2024–25; Greek Cups in 2019–20 and 2024–25; and the 2026 Greek Super Cup. Individually, he’s been named Super League Player of the Month twice (May 2023 and January 2025), Olympiacos Player of the Season for 2024–25, and both Player and Goalkeeper of the Season in the league that year.

On the international stage, Tzolakis has earned 7 caps for Greece since his debut in June 2024, keeping a clean sheet in his first outing against Malta. With a market value hovering around €15.7 million, Olympiacos are holding firm at a €20 million asking price – a figure that’s drawn interest not just from Liverpool and Arsenal, but also Italian sides like Napoli and Roma.

Why Liverpool? The Reds are bracing for potential changes between the sticks. Alisson Becker, their Brazilian wall, sees his contract expire at the end of next season, and while Giorgi Mamardashvili is a solid option, Liverpool want competition and depth. Tzolakis, with his commanding presence, shot-stopping prowess (boasting a 7.48 average rating in the 2025/26 Super League season across 1,890 minutes), and experience in high-stakes European nights, fits the bill as a long-term successor. It’s a gamble, sure – splashing €20m on a Greek Super League keeper isn’t their usual MO – but with last summer’s big spends not yielding the expected silverware, Jurgen Klopp’s successors are ready to think outside the box to get the club back on track.

But Arsenal? Mikel Arteta’s side isn’t backing down. The Gunners have been monitoring Tzolakis closely this season, seeing him as a potential upgrade or backup to their current options. With Aaron Ramsdale’s future uncertain and David Raya holding the fort, Arsenal view the young Greek as a shrewd investment – someone who could challenge for the No.1 spot and bring that winning mentality from his Conference League triumph. Reports from Italy’s Arena Napoli highlight that Arsenal’s interest is genuine, and they’re prepared to match or exceed Liverpool’s bid to secure his signature.

Adding intrigue to the saga is Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who also owns Nottingham Forest. He’s reportedly thrilled at the Premier League attention, knowing it could drive the price even higher than what Napoli might offer. “The interest from Liverpool and Arsenal is real,” sources close to the deal say, “and Marinakis is hoping for a bidding war that pushes the fee well beyond €20m.”

This transfer tussle comes at a pivotal time for both clubs. Liverpool, after a mixed season, need to rebuild with an eye on reclaiming domestic and European glory. Arsenal, ever the challengers, are building a squad capable of sustained title pushes. Tzolakis, with his blend of youth, talent, and proven pedigree, could be the missing piece for either side.

As the summer window approaches, all eyes will be on this shock pursuit. Will Liverpool seal the deal and storm ahead, or will Arsenal’s refusal to yield turn this into the transfer battle of the year? One thing’s for sure – HERE WE GO! Stay tuned for more updates as this electrifying story unfolds.
