The duo that can revive Dak Prescott and revolutionize Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have given Dak Prescott a second weapon at wide receiver with the acquisition of George Pickens, and that can make all the difference.

With the recent acquisition of George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys have given quarterback Dak Prescott another weapon at wide receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb. The Lamb-Pickens duo has the potential to be more dynamic than any Prescott has seen in a while.

While Prescott had a stellar 2023 season, his 2024 season was one of his worst, even before it was cut short by an injury. He and Lamb struggled to connect after Lamb skipped out on training camp. And of course, defenses knew Lamb was pretty much Dallas’ only weapon at the time and he was almost always double-covered.

Why Pickens is the boost Prescott and Dallas needed

In Prescott’s rookie season in 2016, he had one great receiver in Dez Bryant and two decent ones in Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams. But in 2018, the Cowboys traded midseason for Amari Cooper and Prescott’s production skyrocketed. With Cooper and Michael Gallup the following season, it was even better.

It was 2020 when Lamb joined the ‘Boys, and he made an immediate impact, becoming a Pro Bowler in just his second season and leading the league in receptions (135) in his third. With Pickens on the other side, they have the potential to be the most dangerous duo in the league and to revamp Prescott in the 2025 season.

“Looking at the guy’s tape, you see what he does, the kind of receiver he is. He’s going to win on one-on-ones. He can win two versus one if he has to,” said Prescott. “Very, very talented guy. When you can add him alongside a CeeDee and the rest of the weapons we have, I’m super excited.”

Pickens already impressing Cowboys

The Cowboys kicked off their OTAs last week and already the wheels are in motion for Prescott and his dynamic duo to start building chemistry. And Pickens has already been receiving praise from his teammates and coach Brian Schottenheimer.

“Man, we complement each other very well,” Lamb said. “Obviously, he’s a tall figure. His ability to go up and get the ball at the highest point is amazing. I don’t think anybody in the league can really … he’s up there with the guys in the league as far as 50/50 balls, deep threat. Anything as far as running routes, it’s pretty good. It’s good to see.”

The two have a mutual respect that’s encouraging to see. Early on, they clarified that there was no competition between them with Lamb saying, “We both ones.” They have trained together in the past, so they’re no strangers either.

“He’s got great feet, stepping in certain places,” Pickens said of Lamb. “He steps in place a lot, which means he can get where he’s going fast and in a short space. And he’s tall. A lot of people don’t know he’s kind of tall.”

Although Pickens is still in the process of learning Dallas’ offensive system, he’s clearly impressing everyone, and he also says he’s not worried about getting caught up.

“Offensively, plays are kind of universal all across the league,” said Pickens.

As for his off-the-field concerns, so far, no one on the Cowboys’ team seems worried. And while the true test will be when the season begins and the pressure is on, Pickens seems determined to rewrite the narrative around him as he begins this new chapter in Dallas.
