Surprise! The Philadelphia Eagles snatch former Texas Longhorns RB for their roster!

The Philadelphia Eagles, reigning Super Bowl champions, have bolstered their roster by claiming former Texas Longhorns running back Keilan Robinson off waivers, as announced on Friday. Robinson, who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, quickly found a new home after being waived by Jacksonville.

Robinson spent three seasons at the University of Texas, playing in 37 games and scoring 11 total touchdowns, including two on special teams. He joins fellow Longhorns Andrew Mukuba (safety, second-round pick), Cam Williams (offensive tackle, sixth-round pick), and Moro Ojomo (defensive tackle) on the Eagles’ roster, as Philadelphia continues to tap into Texas talent.

A Washington D.C. native, Robinson began his college career at Alabama in 2019 under legendary coach Nick Saban, where he recorded 39 carries for 254 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman. Transferring to Texas in 2021, he became a valuable depth piece in the Longhorns’ backfield, achieving career highs of 45 carries and 322 rushing yards, along with three rushing touchdowns that season.

Robinson’s standout moments came late in the 2023 season. In the regular-season finale against Texas Tech, he scored a 10-yard receiving touchdown and electrified the crowd with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after halftime. The following week, in the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State, he added four carries for 75 yards and two rushing touchdowns, helping Texas secure a commanding 49-21 victory.

In his rookie season with Jacksonville, Robinson started on injured reserve but returned to play in six games, primarily on special teams. He recorded two kickoff returns for 34 yards in a Week 14 win over the Tennessee Titans (10-6), though he saw limited offensive action with just five snaps and no touches in 2024.

Now, Robinson aims to carve out a role on Philadelphia’s 53-man roster. The Eagles kick off their preseason against the Cincinnati Bengals on August 7, providing Robinson an opportunity to showcase his versatility and playmaking ability, particularly on special teams.
