The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back a crucial piece of the puzzle — a familiar face and fan favorite

The Philadelphia Eagles are making waves in the NFL with their latest roster move, reuniting with a beloved player who has proven his worth on the field. According to 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, the Eagles have re-signed Britain Covey, a dynamic punt returner and fan favorite, as announced on X with a video of Covey back at practice. This move comes hot on the heels of the team’s reunions with safety Marcus Epps and offensive tackle Fred Johnson, signaling a clear strategy to bolster the roster with trusted talent.

Covey, who spent the offseason with the Los Angeles Rams, found himself on the outside looking in after failing to make the Rams’ final 53-man roster on cutdown day. However, the Eagles were quick to seize the opportunity, bringing back a player who has been a spark plug for their special teams unit since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022 out of the University of Utah.

During his time with the Eagles, Covey carved out a vital role as the team’s primary punt returner. Despite a challenging 2024 season where a Week 3 scapula injury against the New Orleans Saints sidelined him, Covey still managed to showcase his value. In just five games, he returned six punts for 46 yards and contributed on offense with seven receptions on eight targets for 34 yards. His versatility and reliability made him a key piece of Philly’s special teams puzzle.

When Covey’s injury forced him onto injured reserve, the Eagles turned to rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean to handle punt return duties. DeJean performed admirably, but with new challenges in 2025, the team needed a proven option. The Eagles tested Ainias Smith and Avery Williams for the role during the offseason, but neither could secure a spot on the final roster. This opened the door for Covey’s triumphant return, a move that capitalizes on his familiarity with the team and his knack for making plays.

The Eagles’ decision to bring back Covey isn’t just about filling a gap—it’s about reinstating a player who embodies the grit and heart of Philadelphia football. As the team continues to fine-tune its roster, Covey’s return adds a crucial piece to the puzzle, ensuring the Eagles’ special teams remain a force to be reckoned with. Fans are already buzzing with excitement, eager to see their favorite returner back in midnight green, ready to make an impact.
